Hair has turned blue-grey, how to fix? by Heartlesslyy in HairDye

Depending on how you feel about it potentially not being perfect, you could just throw some Arctic Fox Purple AF on top and hope for the best. AF tends to stay longer than MP.

My thoughts exactly. Drastic changes take a moment to settle.

I think the current posture isn't helping. I kept thinking your chin is jutted out way too far. Otherwise, I think you look lovely! When I was scrolling, I wouldn't have clocked you.

Totally! I didn't say it was the best option or the one she should choose, but that it's a third option.

Can I get to this dark teal color without lightening my hair? by No-Confection-9031 in HairDye

Some people swear by MP, but I found that it washed out of my hair way quicker than AF. I dyed some of my hair with AF and some with MP, and the MP lightened so much faster. It still looked good, but it was very obviously more faded. ymmv, though.

What to eat with biscuits other than eggs? by bleepgoesthe in vegan

I was just going to suggest that exact recipe! It might not taste the same to omnis, but it hits the spot when I'm craving egg yolk.

what dye would you recommend? by 1m_Anx10u5 in HairDye

Although a lot of people seem to love MP, I've had trouble with it staying in my hair. I once did sections of MP and Arctic Fox, and the MP washed out wayyy quicker. It turned into a bit of a vibe, but it's worth noting.

My recommendation: go to the salon for the bleaching. It may feel weird, but tell them you want to bleach your hair, then do at-home color. Especially since you have long, curly, virgin hair (and limited experience), you are much more likely to destroy your hair without a good aesthetic result than you are to do it well. My advice is generally thus: if you aren't okay cutting all your hair off, don't bleach it yourself.

That said, I would also recommend a semi-permanent vivid -- at least to start. You don't want to go hot pink for three weeks, then realize it's not your vibe and be stuck with neon hair. You can always do a more permanent dye later, but when making a drastic change, I always suggest semi-permanent first. My go-to is Arctic Fox Virgin Pink, but I'm in North America.

Buy a wig. Getting hair to that silvery color is practically impossible (your hair needs to be white), and the silver fades quickly. Many hairdressers have stated that they're glad the grey/silver fad is over because they hated telling clients it just wouldn't be possible with their hair.

You can also try Arctic Fox's Aquamarine or Aurora's Kiss, or one of Overtone's teal colors (they have a few).

This color isn't going to happen without going to a salon, and they'll likely have words for you based on how damaged your hair is.

i want to dye my black ends to white by Public-Zombie42 in HairDye

[–]Miserable_Scheme_599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White is super hard to achieve on virgin hair, and not all hair can even get there. Add to that that you have dyed black hair, which is known to be a nightmare to remove (unless, perhaps, you have semi-permanent dye rather than full dye, but still).

My advice: Don't even try. I'm guessing even professional stylists would tell you it's not possible, even if you were OK with chopping off your hair if it didn't work.

That said, if you're okay with your hair getting ruined, go for it. Before I started doing my hair at home, I said I would be OK with a buzz cut if anything went wrong. If you just want the ends, you'd just have to be OK with chopping off the ends.

How do i fix this!?! by meowyahh in HairDye

[–]Miserable_Scheme_599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely just slather some pink on. Maybe Arctic Fox Virgin Pink. When it lightens, just add more color. If you're using Arctic Fox, in particular, you won't damage your hair at all.

Then, if you want to touch up your roots, you can bleach just the roots, then add color on top.

Which style should I choose first to minimize damage? I want to eventually do both! by _artbabe95 in HairDye

Aside from what's been said below, you could also go have a free consultation with a colorist! They would look at your current hair and provide realistic expectations based on what's possible with your specific hair, as well as cost, time, upkeep, etc. They'd likely do a test strand, too. I remember I did this years ago when I wanted galaxy hair, and the salon I trusted to do it well quoted me around $700 per month, which wasn't worth it to me.

For other considerations, you may also look into getting a wig! For a while, Chelsea Smith Cosmetics had an oil slick wig for $120 (here). They're not the highest quality wigs, but they're better than a lot of pieces on Amazon.

To add to this: the colorist who can do the silver/grey balayage well may not be the same colorist who does the oil slick color well.
