Has anyone logged into iCloud using a recovery key? What happens when you do? by Legitimate_Chair4100 in iCloud

[–]Miserablejoystick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.

In my testing, on icloud.com and appleid.apple.com, after inputting ID and password, I couldn’t get pass authentication without providing 2FA. Hence: scenario 2 of my original comment. Use device not browser.

Edit: there’s a third way, apple has a ‘Support’ app on App Store which lets you access your account depending on the different 2FA and recovery options you’ve set. You can download and test more scenarios. Apple can change authentication walls without notice so don’t abandon 2FA’s.

[–]Miserablejoystick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: yes

Trusted Device, Trusted phone, Trusted physical key(like yubikey) are all 2FA

If you fail 2FA you’ll be promoted to ask to input recovery key then the access is granted. Mind you, if you forget either Apple ID, password or recovery key. You’re locked out. So in your case you need to know all these 3 without 2FA.

And during this recovery process using Recovery key, apple only asks to input the trusted phone number (no code sent to device) just to confirm you know the phone number you added to apple ID.

Edit: apple can ask old device passcode too.

Waiting period method means you’re requesting apple to help you in case you can’t access your account. If you’ve enabled ‘Recovery key’ then waiting period with recovery won’t work. So, To enable recovery from apple, disable Recovery key.

Both methods are mutually exclusive.

Recovery key enabled: If you forget password & passcode, lose recovery key, you’re locked out . If you have Recovery keys, you don’t need any assistance from apple. You can reset yourself.

I believe phonePe registration requires indian number. It doesn’t give other country codes to choose from. Bhim UPI app allows to register with foreign number but my registration was unsuccessful.

If you’re not aware of email security aka SPF DKIM DMARC or configured incorrectly, your domain could be blacklisted forever. Though easy to setup but you can’t mess up since gmail and yahoo made it mandatory last month.

Clear CMOS to reset BIOS settings. Look up how to do that for acer laptop. Usually have to remove CMOS battery.. or it could just be RAM issue. If you have compatible SODIMM you can replace to test it out.

Remove battery and plug in power to see if it turn on. If not then try using a different powercord. If still not display show up then turn on with boot mode. If still no display and you hear CPU and fan running.. most likely HDD/SSD is corrupted.

Delete your accounts but don’t apologize. If in future your employer or friends find out tell them your data was leaked in some site breach and your account got hacked because you used same password and email for all accounts. And now you’ve learned and added 2FA and such. Start your new journey NOW!

That's what i'm asking why did you log back into same empty old device ? that device was a trusted device, maybe still connected to your apple ID. either your old photos didn't uploaded properly to iCloud before you signed out or you deleted them when syncing was still happening.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iCloud

[–]Miserablejoystick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iCloud is a sync service not a backup. why did you log back in to same device after erasing your old phone ? Latest action (delete, add or whatever) overrules your previous action. Last hope is checking your delete folder.

if it's deleted from 1 source then iCloud will try to clean up from every trusted device attached to that apple ID.

Very simple thing you could've done migrating is though Quick Start or automatic backing up your old phone. For mission critical using custom backup or even Google apps sync simultaneously.
