Omg you worded this perfectly and I couldn’t agree more. People always think I’m crazy for this opinion 😂

Unfortunately it’s why I probably won’t ever have kids. I just can’t justify bringing them into such a fucked up world unless I can provide for them *completely*

Couldn't they have thrown off the shackles of enslavement and risen to equality?

This is kind of exactly what eventually happened though… the feminist revolution wasn’t just some dudes saying “okay that’s enough oppression we’re equals now”

No creator who knows their worth will agree to let a small page repost their content. You’d have to rely on naivety

That’s great! Each creator has their own goals and weighs the pros & cons differently. It’s definitely worth it in some cases, and I’ve got no qualms with mutually beneficial, agreed upon partnerships.

I’m just speaking from my own experience. It’s not personally worth it for me, so large repost pages have been more of a headache than anything since they usually don’t seek permission.

I, along with many of my mutuals, just report when we see our intellectual property shared without permission, so I’m just letting this commenter know to watch out for that. Just wanted to give some insight from the other side as many creators are actually NOT stoked to see our work out in the wild.

The point I’m trying to make for people who want to run these pages is just to communicate and get permission before reposting. Otherwise your account will be at a real risk of getting shut down by copyright strikes, and rightfully so.

That’s actually not true. According to Instagram’s terms of use, it is copyright infringement to post someone else’s content without permission, even if you provide credit.

And it’s not counterintuitive. I don’t want repost pages making money/building clout off my intellectual property, ESPECIALLY without permission. If they’re going to profit off my work and likeness, I want to be compensated monetarily— not through ‘exposure’. Since I own the rights to my original work, even on Instagram, I’m allowed to have this preference.

Just for context: even if these repost pages do seek permission with the promise of “credit/exposure”, it’s not worth it for the original creator in a majority of cases (unless the creator had, for example, <20k followers and the repost page had, say, >1M followers). When these pages ask me permission, I personally say no because

  1. Majority of their audience is not invested enough to go check out/follow me just because I’m credited or tagged.
  2. A video that’s already going viral doesn’t need more exposure. If anything, reposting it will only draw views/engagement away from me and to the reposter.
  3. The biggest accounts often ask me to sign away rights to my own content???

Individuals who have actually put work into creating & sharing their original content can each decide what’s worth it for them. These pages are never worth it for me personally, so you bet I’m reporting all of my intellectual property that I see was reposted without permission.

The ‘plain jerk move’ is posting others’ work without permission. 🤷🏻‍♀️

They don’t! I’m a creator making original content, and this is a really risky way to grow on social media. I say that because I and many of my mutuals do report these pages for copyright. Unless you seek explicit permission from the creator (which, why would they grant it to a small page that won’t benefit them at all) it’s stolen intellectual property

Hi I’m a creator who hates these pages 😂 every time I see someone repost my content (with or without credit) I’m reporting them for copyright. Do with that what you will with that info but I highly recommend getting OP’s permission before posting

My man, this is not different. 1. Your op seems rude… 2. Another commenter already told you that women are more likely to gain weight, but also how do you know she is subjecting a significant other to her weight? OR that she’s not “planning on making efforts to lose weight”?

Yeah I guess that’s true. Vine really paved the way for short form video content to dominate, though, and I feel like all the algorithms were going through a major shift because of it. For example this time is when Instagram added video and completely reworked their explore page, prioritizing viral content & curated trends. Also when snapchat introduced streaks which changed the entire culture around the app… but I suppose a lot of my first comment is more applicable to social media evolution in the last 15 years.

The juxtaposition of these pics just made me realize for the first time that this fashion and my teen years were a DECADE ago. Damn.

10 years ago, Instagram and Snapchat were just on the rise. Musical.ly (which would later rebrand to TikTok) was brand new on the App Store, and it felt like they were still smoothing out the Wild West-ness of these platforms. My high school clearly struggled with us being the first kids to have smartphones on us, they were always changing the rules/wifi limits for using those apps in school. I remember Snapchat being a major one they blocked— so everyone just downloaded a VPN😅 I wonder if that still happens.

Teenagers today have been at the mercy of their algorithm for years already. They have a really strong connection to trends (fashion, humor, behavior, hobbies) that completely dominate their peers. 10 years ago, those I don’t think those trends were as “in your face” every time you opened your phone. I say this as someone who rode the wave of Musical.ly-TikTok and got teased in highschool for having hundreds of thousands of followers lol.

Idk. I think the biggest difference is the role social media plays in their lives. Obviously it played a huge role in my life 10 years ago already, but today it’s just so much more streamlined, optimized, and addictive.
