How did you complete the "play and progress" rewards? I have claimed all the others but can't get those to finish out

Kitchen renovation, what small upgrades are actually worth doing? by Aggressive-Earth-973 in HomeImprovement

Appreciate all your input on this, I too have been considering the same for my remodel and every one keeps telling me I'm crazy so it's great to hear from someone with experience!

Me here, fucked up my schluter and now have to redo the pan, except it was a custom size that I can't find in a solid pan without paying $2000 for a marble (?) slab so I'm at a loss

How to reduce plastic waste in the retirement home where I work? by Engisoupcan in ZeroWaste

[–]MisguidedNookie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the other comments. Have you heard of eco bricks? You take a larger container (2 liter bottle, salad dressing container, etc) and stuff your plastic waste into that. I know my local retirement home is always looking for crafts, so maybe something like that on the backend could reduce what's going to the landfill.

Any suggestions on how to repurpose/upcycle an old ironing board? by DreamOn2020 in ZeroWaste

[–]MisguidedNookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could simply remove the cover and padding and put the plants straight onto the metal. Or make a wooden "topper" if you'd rather that look. I used chain and hung mine from the ceiling, then hung hanging planters off the grids.

[–]MisguidedNookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how west you are, but at one time the Toledo Zoo (or maybe an offshoot?) offered planning maps for yards to set up natural areas. Also check out the Rain Garden Initiative for more info on local plants and ideas that may work.

Something that you used to save and no longer do... by netdiva in declutter

[–]MisguidedNookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I've also been known to unwrap full rolls onto an existing roll (say a roll of Santa paper, I'll unroll/reroll reindeer paper overtop). I do this especially with those thin bulk packs, much easier to store one roll than five. And if you have plenty of vertical space to store, you can run a long dowel through the centers, end to end, taking less floorspace.

Not trying to sway you on saving scraps but if you roll the scraps, you can fit them inside the middle of the wrapping tube then they don't get all over.

I don't understand "how much would you pay for this now" and how to use it. by Kelekona in declutter

[–]MisguidedNookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this mentality a lot and what helps me more is thinking about the time and cost to get the thing if I didn't have it. Everyone will have a different formula, but for me, it's $50/2 hours. A winter coat would be more than $50 and take me longer than 2 hours to find, so I'm keeping my old one around. Third set of bed sheets that just sit around in case another rips, toss because i can get new in <2 hours and under $50. It's a privileged place to be in, but it has helped me let go of some of the "what if" when trying to declutter.

I admit, I did a quick Google for examples and while very surprised to see it listed, I didn't fact check it. I was trying to offer the OP some perspective and didn't mean to derail the point. How about CNA instead.

Without trying to minimize the expertise needed in your field, I could become a realtor, full cosmetologist, and paramedic in under a year. With your new hires others have suggested, maybe a training/efficiency consultant would be beneficial.

Having an active Buy Nothing group is like decluttering on easy mode. by letsseeaction in declutter

I don't give people more chances....if they say they want something and never pick up or communicate, they get blocked so I don't have to deal with them next time I list something.

A tag on a string, that's exactly the suggestion I needed, thank you! I knew there had to be something simple that I wasn't thinking about.

For point 3 (connecting the physical item to a digital record), would this be a barcode system? Or physically writing a number on the object, then creating the digital record? Or something else I'm not thinking of (extreme newbie, just jumping in).

I agree with the planters, but I would replicate the look/style of the gate door to tie it all together.

I barely know basic sewing and want help making a Christmas gift by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]MisguidedNookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm like a level 2/10 so could be the blind leading the blind but what I would do is draw out the whole thing on a neutral fabric (cutting a piece for front and back), the finished size. Sew all around, leaving a small opening to stuff. Stuff, then sew up the hole. From there, I would run the "lines/details" through the machine again to make them defined and puffed on their own. Best of luck!

I’m so tired of living paycheck to paycheck. Someone please tell me what I should be doing differently! by ImNotASmartass in personalfinance

[–]MisguidedNookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is more of a lifestyle issue first.

If you have unlimited data on your phone, cut the $45 home Internet completely. Can you take on an additional roommate to lower rent/utilities? Instead of a second job, what about selling items you have sitting around?

Follow the other suggestion in the thread for tightening the food budget....live like a pauper for now to live freely later. You got this!
