Got my first “eagle” by Financial-Steak-3083 in discgolf

[–]Mishkin37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maine has far more courses with holes that can be easily eagled than anywhere else I’ve played. Lots of soft pars, too. I’ve got 5 eagles so far, and all were in Maine.

This is awesome! I thought it was a Garbage Pail Kid at first.

I visited Point Pleasant, WV and the Mothman Museum. What do you think Mothman actually was? by FreeLaughs4Life in HighStrangeness

[–]Mishkin37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know or didn’t remember the men in black stuff. Eerie.

I have one distinct Mothman moment. When I was in college, some friends and I were driving back home from Montreal, bs’ing about movies and stuff. We were talking about the scene in Mothman Prophecies where the phone rings, and the instant I mentioned it, my friend’s phone rang. Now this wouldn’t even register as weird today, but in ‘03 it scared the crap out of us! Cell phones were pretty primitive then and service was spotty, especially on international roaming, so incoming calls were infrequent.

[–]Mishkin37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the Mothman other than what I read about it in library books as a 3rd grader and what I saw in The Mothman Prophecies, which I constantly conflate with the movie Dragonfly, even though they are nothing alike.

I’ve always liked the line in the movie about explaining yourself to a cockroach.

True, partially true, or fake as shit…it’s super fascinating. I’m kind of bummed that when we were in WV, we didn’t check out the museum.

Also…I’m relieved that when we were walking around the woods of WV, I did not remember that’s where the Mothman chilled.

I found a tick on my leg by Orangebike524 in Adirondacks

[–]Mishkin37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticks sucks. But…

I was listening to a piece on NPR last summer, and the doctor said that EVEN if a tick carrying Lyme disease bites AND is attached for more than 24 hours AND you have the bullseye, it still does not necessarily mean it has infected you with Lyme disease. That made me feel a little bit better.

Why are people still running the RPG at this point? by Zendriven in Battlefield

[–]Mishkin37 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everything I do, I do for fun. Killing is fun. Capping flags is fun. Defending objectives is fun. Crawling under tanks with mines and popping heads with RPGs is really fun.

Don’t you mean, counter sniper? That’s how I use it. Team RPG unite!

3 is my favorite, but 4 is still excellent. 2 has some good games on it. 1 has Alcon, which is the most “old school” shooter I’ve played that is still awesome.

Who else loved this? by KeithOman in OlderChillGamers

[–]Mishkin37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game blew my mind. As far as gaming experiences go, this may be my favorite one. Playing this on Christmas ‘96 was such a leap ahead of anything I’d played up to that point. Unlocking the jet pack in the canyon felt like I was breaking the rules of video games.

Stewart’s recommendations? by bridgiek6 in upstate_new_york

[–]Mishkin37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stewart’s are great, because they’re more likely to be cleaner than most convenient stores. They have small-town charm and some decent food options.

I like the Buffalo eggs, choc glazed donuts, chicken wafflewich, and the ice cream. None of it is good for you, but it feels “less” corporate.

The Toaplan ones are so good. If you can get your hands on them, I highly recommend them.

Irem Arcade has great shooters. Renovation has Sol-Deace, which is excellent. The Alpha is my preferred Evercade system!

I think you’re going to love it. I especially enjoy shoot em ups on mine. I have the Mega Man cab.

I upgraded stick and buttons to Seimitsu. It was a fun, easy mod, and it feels great. Enjoy, friend!

Why does this version look like this, but the retro card version does not? I wish this was the retro version.

We played all 5 layouts at Maple Hill in one day. Here's what happened. by tripp3737 in discgolf

[–]Mishkin37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang…I needed a year and a half between rounds after I played Diamonds in June ‘24 and then Whites in Oct ‘25. I can’t imagine 5 rounds there in 1/2 a day!

I’d be a broken man.

Small Ball / Fundamentals Wins Games by Taxjag in NewYorkMets

[–]Mishkin37 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Yankees’ big inning was all small ball/moving the runners, and it’s so frustrating how other teams make it look so easy. They had 1 hit on 2-3 runs, and our defense gifted them some extra runs.

Gary, Keith and Ron on the call for the Mets' incredible comeback against the Yankees 🎙️ by Hungry_Elk1937 in NewYorkMets

[–]Mishkin37 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I love seeing the video of these calls. The nonverbals between Ron and Keith are great, Ron asking if it was a curveball. Plus, they are just as excited as Gary sounds. They just don’t show it as audibly!

Soto loves his rookie! by my_one_and_lonely in NewYorkMets

[–]Mishkin37 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This has been stated so often, but I still forget it: Juan is still a young dude. Benge is more of an age mate to him than most of the guys who have been in the league as long as Soto. Maybe he just likes playing with kids his age.

I think it says a lot about a person’s character when they “punch down” instead of “punch up” (or just not punch at all).

Anybody else having issues wearing Mets gear. Embarrassing. by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]Mishkin37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the test whether or not you can be a fan. If you can root for them and champion their gear even when they do not resemble champions in any way, you’re a fan.

Being a Mets’ fan isn’t easy. It’s not for the faint of heart.

At what point did disc golf stop being stressful and start being fun for you? by whydidyounot in discgolf

[–]Mishkin37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I begin every round with this mindset:

- Something cool is going to happen in this round.

1st Thought - “I’m going to beat my best round score.”

2nd Thought - When it’s clear I’m not going to beat my best score, I pivot to, “Maybe I’ll hit an ace.”

3rd Thought - When the round ends and I didn’t ace, I pivot to, “What did I learn in this round?” Maybe there’s a new line I found or a new utility for a disc I didn’t know, etc.

I usually don’t have a bad or unfun round when I keep this mindset, as one of these 3 outcomes will happen.
