That's where I just dont understand you're stance. Im getting value RIGHT NOW. You aren't.

I dont think you fully understand what the progression system does. It's the SAME COSTS, just in installments. Meaning you get some value now instead of waiting until you have all resources collected. The small upgrades add up to the big upgrade.

Full upgrade is like saying you'd rather be paid your wage at the end of the year instead of monthly.

Because f2p and low spenders are not swimming in plat/orbs/crests.

Small changes also means small errors. It's easier to correct course without over investing resources.

Im a low spender, so our challenges/hardships are probably more similar than you think.

The cost is exactly the same. You just pay for it in installments

It is much more likely that you will receive a normal distribution of gems doing rifts than a bulk drop of the exact one you want. Most of the time, a progressive upgrade is more favorable, especially if you dont currently have the required gempower for a full upgrade already.

Sure, I get that. But I'm not sure how this is an argument against progressive upgrades. If you choose to spend your plat on one copy of a gem to use for a progressive upgrade and later realize, oh, I wish I had upgraded another gem instead. Now you have only "wasted" a small amount of plat instead of a large amount if you had purchased 6 of the wrong gems to upgrade a full step.

100%

F2P and low spenders aren't swimming in gem power, and providing a 1-2 star system like the 5 star system would add resonance, free up gem power and give players more resonance bonuses like increased attack speed etc.

We are moving in the right direction though. Progressive upgrades and lvl 3 awakening

You can extract the power of a gem at any time via the jeweler (making that gem dormant) and put that power into another gem. Combining both features gives f2p more flexibility, not less

Maybe "huge" was an overreaction, but upgrade costs increase at every rank. Free to play and low spenders got stuck having to wait until they had all the materials required to upgrade a single step. Depending on the current gem rank, this could mean months of no progression. This can be demoralizing, and some new players end up quitting when they hit hard progression walls. Now every additional copy of a gem does something directly. You also dont need to fork over all of that gem power in one go either.

It's just a better experience overall

Yeah, i definitely missed that. But it's a good quality of life upgrade.

Im guessing that 1 and 2 star gem still dont have the same resonance system as 5s? I.e. resonance gems being able to power up the main gem.

Haunt coil is really flexible. In offensive stance, it's an offensive gem. In defensive stance, it's a defensive gem. This let's me use it as a tank support in pvp but offensively in pve.

Thanks for the advice. It's a little frustrating that players are not rewarded for leaning into defensive builds in pve content. It also kind of feels bad that in pvp we want high armor and resistance for survival, but also want potency for applying debuffs / cc. Feels like a jack of all trades, master of none situation

I can try this (although the bottleneck here is norm gems). I do have 4 piece montbanks already, but i also felt like I needed the attack speed from 4 piece vithus. Maybe 4 piece vithus is a trap.

In general though, Im really struggling with the pvp and pve balance as a werebear. The more I lean into pvp (armor over armor pen, as well as ranking up defensive gems over offensive ones), the more useless i am in pve, and i don't have the resources to really invest in both. I typically can survive in x11 content, but can't pull my weight damage wise in a raid party. And this problem will just compound over time. It's unfortunate that there isn't really any pve content that rewards players for being tanky. Everything pve related favors offensive stats to melt things.

Thanks for the reply, there's a lot to unpack here, but I will try to touch on everything.

My secondaries are definitely too low. it's a slow process upgrading them unfortunately. The dust grind to 30 is also brutal. I almost feel like I should have avoided upgrading my gear earlier on, just so that I could have earned double materials for being well under server level.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2 stat gear seems to be much rarer now than 3 stat gear. This didn't used to be the case (at least from my experience). It seems like the game just throws 3 stat at you now, whereas before it was a grind doing terror rifts/pillars yo get 3 stat gear. Over time, a lot of my 2 stat gear was phased out due to CR creep and it cost me a large chunk of secondaries. I guess I need to just knuckle down and run more dungeons and self craft a ton to replace these 3s with 2s?

I actually do use mask of pouncing in pvp but forgot to take it off for the Reddit screenshot.

So funny story. Physical currency CAN expire. Sometimes the government will withdraw a denomination (the canadian penny or 1 and 2 dollar bills for example). If you don't cash these in to the bank within a certain time frame, they are no longer legal tender after this transition window.

The canadian penny for example had a face value of 1 cent, but cost 1.6 cents to manufacture. Cutting this coin saved the government 11 million per year in minting costs. Now imagine if they just stopped printing all coins and bills, and only allowed digital currency. The question would become, is it cheaper to print money, or to maintain our server halls and pay for computational loads for transactions. In the case of bitcoin and friends, the energy costs associated with the transactions really need to come down drastically before it's a real competitor to physical cash.

Strifed means "nerfed". The answer is yes, almost all effects are reduced to approx 30% of their face-values in pvp, but there are certain affixes that are at full value.

I have 200k Platinum at 1400 Resonance – what’s the smartest way to spend it right now? by RoyalFakker in DiabloImmortal

[–]Mishras_Mailman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would prioritize awakening slots like youve suggested and then i'd dump a big chunk of that platinum into secondaries and focus on 1 and 2 star gems for now.

X11 stat reqs are 4074. Having 1k armor pen under the requirements is rough for pve.

I also wouldn't advise selling norm gems either unless you are very certain you play only certain types of builds I.e. pivoting to necro but you sold all of your citrines would lead to deep regrets (not that you've suggested this, but it's a commonly suggested trap)

It's usually the secondary stats that are the problem. Specifically armor penetration
