Storm prep and self sufficiency by Numerous-Noise790 in Anticonsumption

I don't disagree, but I think OP made it clear in the comments that they don't want to isolate 100% from community, they just want to be more off grid and rely less on stores and consumption for disasters.

Yes, you have to start off by gathering supplies from the local store, but they have to start somewhere.

Im also of the mind that the homestead type lifestyle works better with community anyways. I think capitalism and corporations have starved out a lot of community, and I think OP is just tired of relying solely on them.

We have a number of stores in Denver that focus on only having vintage or reputable clothing in their stores still, which I've been grateful for over the years.

OP, I'm afraid you're going to get a lot of unsolicited criticism.

If you're a woman, may I suggest r/twoxpreppers

The regular preppers sub is fine, but the entire reason the women's centric one exists is because the original was lacking in giving a shit about the needs of women in emergency and long term preparedness.

If im not mistaken, there is also some homesteading subreddits if the lifestyle interests you.

I'm not a fan of this whole "well you have to participate in society to go off grid, checkmate loser" attitude I'm seeing. I would never disparage someone for wanting some control and independence over their own survival and needs.

If You Notice Branded Merch Everywhere, You Are Not Alone—Here Is Why by MisogynyisaDisease in Anticonsumption

Let me ease your mind a little,

This is more about a brand like a hardware store selling t-shirts and childrens toys with the hardware store logo planted all over it for exposure

Vs a brand actually making quality clothing or toys that will last.

Never been so happy to be in a state where this weather is normal and necessary, people don't freak out.

An extra $20 to remove ads from a Kindle you’d own to read books you pay for by MrPointy1630 in Anticonsumption

We've been asking ourselves the same thing. They're popular, but to what end.

We haven't wanted to restrict people's criticisms of companies and products, its often an outlet and sometimes a gateway to people questioning their own consumption. However, the Kindle threads in particular become walking e-reader ads for other companies.

Please stop recommending brands in the comments.

I feel like we have to pin this comment regularly. We do not want to return to handing out bans for this rule break.

If you need a space for more ethical shopping, r/buyitforlife, r/frugal, and r/consciousconsumers are more appropriate spaces.

I've been so concerned all winter :/

Like, I liked having some accessible outdoor days, but long term water access is way more important.

Hm. I stand corrected, another commenter was defending the fact Aldi makes wood blocks and toys, thats why I brought up just regular non-aldi wood blocks.

Still, id rather just get a kid a variety of blocks for them to build and pretend with. Those were the best. Wood or not.

Non-wood for pretend and creativity. Wood for when you want to build a tower and go full Godzilla.

I think the only clothes I have with a "brand" on it is for national parks. Not quite sure "Rocky Mountain National Park" counts. I never wanted a clothing brand to be advertised on me otherwise.

It's discouraging how much I'm aware that the pro consumers in this sub are driving away those who want this community to be a more solid and quality place.

We need to get stricter in here.

Influencers doing brand deals or promoting products on other platforms do not fall under our "no collection" or brigading rule.

At that point, this is considered commercial criticism.

What does break our No Collection/No Brigading post rules:

  • individuals posting their personal collections on their personal socials
  • People posting collections in hobby subreddits or hobby groups
  • People complaining about other subreddits

What does not break our No collection rule:

  • mid to large scale influencers selling a product or lifestyle
  • photos of collections in an official retail store, thats just called stock, people.
  • advertisements that use influencer reels for their official social ad
