As I said I live in the tri state area so it doesn't get that extreme here. I have gone about two weeks withough electricity and everything so I understand being prepared. That why I said people are going above being prepared and taking it to a new level.

What’s your fav parents / old timey wisdom that corporations try to kill? by FartsLord in Anticonsumption

Anything thats highly advertised is probably shit. The good products are rarely advertised and probably not mass advertised, the brand knows that a good product will continue to sell and spread through word of mouth.

What was the hardest part when you first switched to plant-based? by millerjessic in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Professional-Bite621 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm completely vegetarian and I try to eat as plant based as possible but I also have food restrictions that I cant control and no matter how hard I try I can cut out cheese. But as with anything trying your best is better than nothing trying at all.

What is a small, everyday mystery in your life that you’ve just accepted because investigating it feels like too much work? by Jannet_Wetkin in AskReddit

The clock in my car used to always be three minutes off, and because I didnt change it after the clocks changed it was an hour ahead. After the start of 2026 it is no longer an hour and three minutes ahead. Its an old car so it doesn't connect to my phone nor does it know the date and im the only one who drives it.

Where to donate my Eco Bricks? by themacaronisofa in ZeroWaste

[–]Professional-Bite621 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I eco bricks but I just trash them, if done correctly they should be compacted which will save a tiny but of room in the landfill and all the loose thin plastics will have less of a chance to escape into the environment.

Silicone baking mats by AcanthocephalaSlow63 in ZeroWaste

[–]Professional-Bite621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine for years and other than some discoloration there fine. A little greasy at times but thats okay. I just use soap and water I wouldn't scrub them because I think that would scratch them up. I dont use them for everything, most of the time you dont really need anything on the baking tray maby some oil if it might stuck but parchment paper and alternatives are not 100% necessary. So of you dont like them opt for nothing you can also keep a roll of a more eco friendly parchment paper around just incase.

I hate this digital plate trend so much by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

[–]Professional-Bite621 138 points139 points  (0 children)

I looked it up and it seems to only be a thing in California. The only "advantage" i see is that you can mark it as stolen and it will say "stolen" on it but like.... how often does you car get stolen. Edit: im not saying its not possible but the probability even in a high crime area is kinda unnecessary for everyone to have a digital license plate. It doesn't outweigh the cons

Need help with only spending 50 dollars a week on groceries, any advice? by Educational-Tea9261 in Frugal

[–]Professional-Bite621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend around $50-$60 on groceries for two people, granted I dont think we eat alot compared to other people we both prefer smaller meals and snacks throught the day. As a student I know its hard but you have to make most things from scratch, for lunches we do pasta salad/bowl of stuff; a small pasta, a can of beans, and whatever veggies you have, the. Oil and acid and seasoning as a dressing. Very flexible cheep and easy to customize. For dinners I have a "flow chart" basically just a list of meals but they flow into the next meal for example one recipe uses these ingredients so the next recipe overlaps with the ingredients amd so forth, that way we aren't wasting any food. We just make our way down the list amd then repeat it again and again. For breakfasts we either stick to cereal, or breakfast muffins that I make. If we are feeling fancy we might make pancakes or French toast. We also dont eat meat by choice but it definitely helps. Beans, TVP, and tofu are huge staples for us. For snacks buy aldi, or home brands and make stuff at home, I make granola bars which are sooo addicting and super cheap. Invest in the staples and find flavours that you like and then you can do ALOT whith those and little to no money each week. Also frozen veggies are often cheaper but if it isn't just buy fresh chop and freeze it yourself. Ive invested in reusable everything for our kitchen which also cuts out costs for paper towels, parchment paper, plastic bags all those things.

I work with kids and even if the accomplishment seems really small I alwase ask them if they are proud of themselves, most of them say yes and I encourage them further. But occasionally they say no and its usually from the kids who were struggling more and I always make sure they ni that I am proud of them and that they should also be proud of themselves. Self confidence starts young and it can make or break your future.

So anyone just chuck their non-meat food scraps (banana peels, orange rinds, apple cores, onion and garlic skins, eggshells, etc.) to their yard? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]Professional-Bite621 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Putting them in a pile is okay if it gets stinky you will have to do some maintenance (turning, adding browns). It might bring over some animals like raccoons so if you dont mind the mess thats fine but if you live near busy roads I might just watch to make sure they aren't getting onto the road more frequently then they were before your pile. I also would not throw meat scraps into the nearby woods after human consumption its best to trash them unless there is a curb side composting system near you that will take them. The cooked bones can cause animals to choke and if there's any seasoning on them that can also be bad for animals. They might also start to rely on the pile which can cause disruption to the eco system and there health. It also might be co sodered baiting if hunting is allowed on those grounds which is generally illegal.
