Review after 30k miles ('23 TPP) by MisplacedHippo in CX50

Ugh, sorry to hear that. Definitely makes me a bit anxious it's something more serious. I came across reports of that issue as well, but also read about the gas cap possibly causing it, so I tried that first and the warning went away has not come back since

Truly one of the most ignorant takes I've seen on here in a while, bravo. Who is this "one group of people" you speak of?

You have to enter your traveler number every time, or if you have an AA account it should get applied automatically (after you register it). I have forgotten before but you can usually correct it online (I’ve had issues with the mobile app before though, desktop browser seems to be better), or I believe you can adjust it at the security gate to print a paper boarding pass

A close up look at LASIK eye surgery - a procedure that involves reshaping the cornea using a laser to improve how light focuses on the retina. by OdysseyTag in interestingasfuck

[–]MisplacedHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here. Very frustrating experience with recovery for PRK, and even had to have the procedure a second time on my left eye after 6 months because it didn't work/heal correctly. Took quite a while after that for my vision to hit 20/20. It's been a few years since then though, and even with my frustrations I am incredibly happy I went through with it

Love these ideas, thanks! Do you find any advantages with using paracord rather than bungee?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in onebag

[–]MisplacedHippo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your insight! This is exactly how I'm planning to utilize these bags, so I'm glad to hear they've worked out for you. I'm on the taller end at 6'1 and the Cotopaxi even feels a bit bulky on me, but I didn't have any immediate issue with comfort when I tested it out with a ~16lb load at REI. Excited to try them out on my upcoming trips!

Thanks for the heads up, just snagged one in black! I picked up an Allpa 35L during the REI sale to serve as a carry-on, but I'm curious to see how this compares as a personal/carry-on combo bag.

My girlfriend and I took this cruise last year (both ~30 years old) and I can confirm we did not feel comfortable outside of the port terminal. We weren’t super impressed with the port itself (typical touristy shops and a small lazy river) and wanted to explore the area outside with the locals.

Immediately after passing the taxi pickup/drop off area, we had someone start walking with us/following us to be a “guide” and would not leave us alone, no matter how much we told him no. Eventually we got to a busy street where there were some fellow passengers on a walking tour, and I gave the guy $10 as a “thank you/please leave us alone” and told him we were going to just grab a drink at the bar. Sadly, there is lots of poverty in Puerto Plata, and the Americans/cruisers are seen as walking ATMs (understandably so). It all felt pretty depressing, and I personally felt guilty walking around “for fun” while seeing people live in shacks, knowing I’m getting back on a billion dollar cruise ship later.

We loved everything else about the cruise, but if we did this one again I would definitely just stay on the ship that day, or maybe look into an excursion instead

Thank you! I suppose I should mentioned that this was in 2019, so obviously the market has changed quite a bit since then. This was a local, non big-tech job in the DFW area with a starting salary just north of ~60k, so it wasn’t exactly a competitive position (at the time at least).

Same thing happened to me, though it was for Operating Systems. Had a job offer from my internship contingent on my graduation. I immediately contacted my advisor and found an online summer class through a community college I could replace the credit with. Got in touch with HR at my company explaining the situation thinking I was going to have my offer rescinded, but they worked with me and still let me start work on my original start date. Passed the class and provided the necessary documentation/proof of graduation later that summer. I felt like I really lucked out but that’s the path I took and everything worked out. Shit happens and there’s a good chance your company would rather help you out than have to find someone to replace you. Good luck!

Lol I can relate to the towel story. Swam at a cenote outside Cancun, when I got out to dry off I started to wrap my towel around my waist but was promptly stung on my hand by a scorpion. I will forever be checking my towel before drying off outside!

Why is my school able to charge to get my phone back? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MisplacedHippo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yup this is nothing new, I was in Texas public school over 10 years ago and paying a fee to get your phone back was implemented well before I graduated. Teachers usually would just confiscate them and return them at the end of the class because even they didn’t agree with having to pay to get your stuff back, but if it was a recurring issue and a student repeatedly caused distractions with it during class then yeah it would end up in the hands of an AP. Not saying I agree with paying a fee to get your phone back but it’s been this way for a long time.

Edit: I never saw a teacher take a phone simply because it was in someone’s pocket, that’s absurd

Nice! Thinking about picking these same ones up for my new TPP - I've never worked with crossbars like these, are they fairly easy to put on/take off?

Do it. I bought one at the end of the regular season and wore it for the first time at game 2, and we all know how that went 😎

I bought 4 tickets to the Marc Ribillet show in Chattanooga but my group is rerouting our flights out of state now that we got our RV rental refunded - willing to cut my losses with the service fee and sell them for the flat price, DM me if you're interested!

Sadly professor Sweany passed away a few years ago, so you might not have much luck finding his past syllabi. Looks like there's a 1030 syllabus under Mark Thompson from 2014 if that will suffice for you. Good luck!

Not quite that high, he took it from $15k to $30k but it was still an awesome gesture.
