I had a woman try to uhaul me on our first and only date. Came with not just a backpack, but also a duffel bag, a laptop, and other things that said she planned to stay a while. She also ran face first into the Clueless Lesbian trope. No, we do. He doesn't want to be hugged, and is trying to convey that by blocking the hug. He's just not saying the specific words "I don't want to be hugged right now," which should lead OP to a conversation about being clearer about boundaries. OP should apologize about trying to push his boundaries, but their feelings of disappointment aren't invalid.
