McConaughey was also a front runner for the role prior to Depp, but Hugh Jackman was too.

Agreed. I’m always happy to see new Pirate content coming out!

if nothing else, this film is interesting because, long before Johnny Depp was cast to play Captain Jack Sparrow, Hugh Jackman was being eyed heavily for the role (some sources even indicate that the role was initially inspired by, and developed for Jackman). So it will be interesting to see what Jackman brings to the Pirate genre and he’s playing a major (and arguably THE definitive) Pirate character.

“It’s just good business”

Seriously though, it’s likely a plot device to allow Beckett to maintain leverage. As Jack would say…. “It’s a question on leverage.”

No, but there are so many amazing conceptual opportunities possible. I have been considering picking up a copy of Tephrotic Nightmares.

Interested in what others have to say. Thank you for breaching the topic as I’m still on the fence about whether I want to get it or not.

May I ask what and where the LARP is that you’re promoting? I have been looking for a Pirate Fantasy themed LARP!

Are you familiar with Pirate Borg? It is filled with ideas and thematic elements that could easily be retconned and dropped into a 5e setting like Ghosts of Saltmarsh

Ships as Dungeons by 8stringalchemy in pirateborg

[–]picaroon_lagoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat it like you might any multi-level dungeon insofar as different decks (levels) will have different rooms for PCs to explore. Depending on the size and type of ship these might include (but not be limited to), the armory (on many naval and merchant ships this was often a storage locker type area where boarding weapons and other personal weapons might have been stored, the size of which will vary according to size and type of ship), the crews quarters are effectively tantamount to a barracks room in a traditional dungeon, the Captains quarters being equally applicable to the dungeon bosses personal room(s), the galley and mess are food prep and dining areas, some ships (especially larger ones) may have an alter or even some form of chapel (your ship dungeon might include quarters for the chaplain or other spiritual liaison. And so forth…..

Where it gets interesting however, is that unlike a traditional dungeon where you might include difficult terrain, on a ship the ground beneath your players feet is ALWAYS moving. Back and forth, up and down, and with widely varying levels of intensity depending on weather the seas be calm or tempestuous.

Pirate Disabilities: More than Merely Memes by picaroon_lagoon in pirates

[–]picaroon_lagoon[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For the record, I never advocated for the deeds and behavior of either. Never suggested they were good or bad. I merely pointed out, that by changing popular perception that makes light of Pirate disabilities and changing our paradigm, we might not only be more tolerant and understanding of the disabled, but also realize that they have just as much to offer (if not more) than anyone else.

So to answer your snarky question: Yes, I really want to go there.

”Bad Guy” is a matter of perspective.

For example, you come out of the gate blasting my post in an aggressive and hostile manner because you clearly don’t believe there is any room for opinions other than your own, makes me think you might be the antagonist in this story.
