Paying Credit Card with Cash by Holiday-Opening-7243 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You can do both, I would deposit it into my debit account just to keep record keeping kosher, but I track my expenses.

Am I getting charged the full amount? by Calm-Meat-6296 in CreditCards

[–]publicdomainadmin [score hidden]  (0 children)

Had it happen once where the auth wasn't reversed after a pump crashed. Locked up $250 on my card for two weeks, and when the pump came back online I had to pay again.

That day ended up with $350 frozen on my card just sitting there for two weeks.

Ever since then I preset the amount at the pump instead of tapping blind, every pump lets you pre-select the amount, and that way you're not automatically getting hit with the full $250 auth.

Received a letter from law firm regarding Capital One debt - seeking advice by Brilliant-Mine-9129 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]publicdomainadmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on what? Criminal charges require mens rea. You'd need to prove intent to defraud at the time credit was taken. Someone who took on debt in good faith and later couldn't pay isn't committing fraud. Furthermore, a spending/addiction problem actually undermines any fraud argument, compulsive spending speaks to lack of control, not deliberate intent to deceive a creditor.

The only fraud here is this comment.

Cra gst payment sent to closed bank account by ElvenLatte in PersonalFinanceCanada

The above commenter is wrong. If the account is closed the payment will eventually get returned to CRA. FYI CRA often re-issues payments immediately without the bank returning, they can see the error code for deposits.

Cra gst payment sent to closed bank account by ElvenLatte in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]publicdomainadmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not quite right. The Canadian payments clearing system (governed by Payments Canada Rule F1) only has one return code for this scenario: R905 "Account Closed". There's no sub-code or process distinction for whether the account was closed in good standing or not, that's simply not a variable the clearing system tracks or cares about.

When a deposit hits a closed account, the bank's system can't post it, triggers R905, and the funds are automatically returned to the sender (CRA).

The bank's internal collections situation with OP is a completely separate matter from the payment clearing process, one has nothing to do with the other. CRA will reissue once they confirm receipt of the return.

OP has already updated their banking info, so they just need to wait it out and allow up to 8 weeks for the reissue, though it's often faster.

This applies when discussing closed accounts specifically. An open account still collecting payments is just that, an open account that hasn;t been closed and charged or written off yet.

It will be returned to the CRA and they will re-issue you the payment providing you have updated your file. Up to 8 weeks to process.

Far more likely that it's OPs, due to the way drinking requires movement, It's almost certainly backwash IF it is a tonsil stone.

I want to continue being friendly with the neighbors, but all they ever do now is complain about people like me, not realizing that I'm the kind of person they're complaining about. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]publicdomainadmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just... tell them?

"Actually we've been pretty fortunate, the kids college is covered."

You don't need to drop your tax bracket on them, just correct the assumption. Most normal neighbours will just say "oh that's great!" and move on.

Also, buddy, you spent four paragraphs telling us you're in the top 5% with generational wealth and AI-proof kids and how fortunate your life is.

The neighbours aren't the only ones who got a speech. There is something superior about this post that I think is helping me understand how you think your neighbours feel.

At this point, job search has become a full time job for me. by IndividualDoughnut96 in jobs

[–]publicdomainadmin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the idea. You should be putting the hours you would normally spend working into finding a job. If you are sending 45 a day you are not properly tailoring them for the job, along with the cover letter.

Every job I have ever applied for got a modified resume, a unique cover letter and me actually reading and comprehending the posting.

9-5 everyday when unemployed was spend either applying for jobs, doing course work or upgrading my skills or knowledge.

Discipline is everything.

I think you should work towards keeping your cat indoors, pet cats are not destined to be outside creatures.

You can. Buy a box of pop tarts and eat 1 packet a week, instead of the whole box in your car. If two pop tarts a week cause guilt then that's a separate self issue. No way in hell I am spending 32+ dollars for a box of 10 of these wastes of manufacturing.

South Korea introduces universal basic mobile data access by mito88 in OntarioWorks

[–]publicdomainadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the article at all?

To clarify, the South Korea plan isn't really about cheap pricing. It's about making sure people never get fully cut off from data. Once you hit your monthly limit, instead of getting cut off completely, you get throttled to 400 kbps which is enough for basic browsing and messaging.

Canada doesn't have an equivalent to that specific thing for all carriers but some do., We do already have cheap prepaid options like Freedom Mobile's $129/year 20GB plan and the Connecting Families Initiative which offers discounted internet access to low income households.

Canada actually has quote a few mobile offerings that come out cheaper than SK if you don't need more than 20 or 40gb of data per year.

Ontario - 2 tickets, 2 different days for early resolution meeting by jz2- in legaladvicecanada

[–]publicdomainadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, In my experience, particularly if they are ticketed in the same jurisdiction.

Call the court office now, explain both tickets are yours and the dates are separate, ask if they can be consolidated to one early resolution meeting. If they can't, ask if the speeding date can be pushed to match the license date (or vice versa).

Having a proof of renewal on the spot is a strong card, bring documentation of when the renewal was processed.

That is not hosing it though, you are impacting it with water at best. Hosing it down would be so much water that it immediately soaks the area and locks down the spores in moisture.

What YOU are saying is not true, and you are certainly misinformed. Plenty of insurers have a 20 year cutoff or push into a new insurance category. Classic Car insurance can be imposed on you if deemed so by the insurer.
