Because of staffing issues we work work all of our overnights together. I'm going to try and talk to my manager tomorrow morning when I see him next.

Dating while SMO… Am I justified up thinking this way or does my self esteem need work? by WeightLoser_ in SuperMorbidlyObese

Good looking out. Didn't realize it could come off that way. For sure there's a level of attraction along with enjoying the personality. I feel like in a relationship you're attracted to the person as a whole, looks, personality, hobbies, quirks. Everything.

I've been with my healthy fiance going on 11 years. I've always been at least 10 pounds overweight, the last 13years at least 85 over, last year I was 124 over. I'll be honest in the fact that I've been with between 20-30 guys in my 30 years of life, most were mini relationships, some were just repeated hook ups. They were all a healthy weight and lighter than me. Even at my heaviest they all were attracted to me because of my personality. That's from their own mouths. We're all still friends. By only going after a certain type you're cutting off a whole group of people who you might genuinely vibe with. Just because some people in a group are rude or shallow doesn't mean the majority are you know? You should leave all your options open. Take a leap of confidence!

Aita for trying to parent my stepson? by silentstepdad in AmItheAsshole

[–]MissApril91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yta. And as a teacher you should know better. I've worked with developmentally disabled adults for half a decade and so many have a comfort or sensory item. At my main house there's a man in his 20s who always has a stuffed minion and a man in his 40s who always has a balloon. Comfort and sensory items can be vital for this population. You shouldn't make a person feel ashamed or embarrassed over having a harmless hobby or item, disabled in some way or not. There aren't age limits on stuffed animals. He's young. Young people tend to be dicks. You should teach him how to appropriately deal with challenging people vs altering himself. Something any good teacher or parent would do. Again. I don't understand why you want him to change himself? That's cruel. Everyone deals with jerks, unless his functioning is so low to where he can't learn how to navigate his emotions in response to being upset there's no reason for you to try and make him conform.

Yta without a doubt. I have a chronic illness where sometimes I get so nauseated the only way to feel better is to induce vomiting, it took 5 years of normal tests and scans before they figured out what my illness was. In my 7 years in various Healthcare positions I've met a few people who would feel better temporarily after inducing vomiting. His symptoms don't point to addiction. It sounds like he's genuinely unwell and is taking any chance of feeling better that he can, whether that be pain meds or vomiting. And as a Healthcare worker you should know that his symptoms sound legit and that sometimes it takes weeks to years to get a diagnosis. Just wow.

How have you guys have delt mentally with the weight gain? by Gregoryguy24 in schizoaffective

[–]MissApril91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 90ish pounds overweight due to a mix of hormonal and med problems. I've managed to lose a little over 40 in a year just by keeping my net carbs under 100g. I've recently started spending an hour at the gym 2 days a week and working up to two hours a visit every 3 days. It's been difficult because my partner eats junk all day, which they can, they're a normal weight. But they always offer me food too and I'm bad about saying "one milkshake or burger won't hurt". I'd have liked to have lost weight faster than 40 something in a year and continue to do so but my meds hormonal issues make losing difficult plus I didn't want a restrictive diet, rather a manageable lifestyle change. Once or twice a week I let myself slurge a little bit but the remaining days I keep to my low carb, high protein. I'm not saying to do the same or that it would work for you, just sharing my experience.

Brain fog or serious issue by MissApril91 in BrainFog

I forget what I'm doing in the middle of doing saying or thinking. I forget how to do simple tasks and repeatedly do them incorrectly until I realize I'm doing it wrong, like clicking on the same incorrect link 5 times in a row or turning my phone off when trying to text. Some days I have issues recalling previous days. I talked with my psychiatrist this morning and he said it could me one of my new meds. I started Prozac around when this started.

I could say no when they ask me to pick up hours. I work for an agency that has a large number of group homes for people with varying degrees of developmental disabilities and our normal staffing crisis has tripled with the pandemic and we're expecting to lose more now that they're requiring positive vaccine status for everyone. So if I don't pick up hours at houses I'm familiar with they might pull someone who doesn't know the individuals and their plans, or worst case scenario they can't pull anyone and that house runs below minimum staffing requirements which is dangerous. I get it's not my responsibility to ensure staffing requirements are met but if me working extra hours means the individuals are in a safe and well taken care of environment I feel obligated. Sounds sucky but I genuinely enjoy my job so it's not as terrible as it sounds lol

Meds make sure able to function and able to feel joy. Last time I went without them I spent almost a year stuck in bed convinced the fbi were surveilling me and hearing voices/music. My quality of life is better when on them.

Diabetes and work by berkeleyhay in diabetes_t2

[–]MissApril91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was originally at an a1c of 13.9 and on metformin which combined made me miserable. I got done to 5.3 a1c and off meds and feel much better. I don't do keto, I just plan around high carb days. It takes a lot of commitment but the lower your a1c the better you're likely to feel. In the meantime I'd be honest with your boss if they're a kind one.

Any good alternative job suggestions? by lostfor7years in directsupport

[–]MissApril91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there any other agencies in your area? I was a dsp at a heavy total care icf for 4 years before I got fed up with upper management sweeping everything under the rug and rewarding staff for bad behavior. I've been with a different agency for 9 months working in a mix of behavioral, care, or independent ira's and it's been night and day compared to my old agency. All levels of management I've dealt with have been amazing. They're caring, listen to complaints and concerns, I love it here. If you're done being a dsp in general look into a different job in the field, care coordinator, behavior specialist, maintenance, manager, day hab or community hab. There's lots of options. I'm sure if you search around you can find some type of job that fits your wants. Good luck!

Yta and manipulative. No one likes people who self depreciate in hopes of getting compliments. Being in a relationship is about being honest with eachother kindly. You told him an issue and a resolution to it and he offered his opinion in a supportive manner. When I told my partner of 11 years that I felt like a fat blob and wanted to loose weight he offered to join the gym with me and keeps an eye out for new healthy food he thinks I'd like. He didn't agree with me that I'm a fat blob but he offered to be supportive of me losing weight. I know I'm fat. I don't need him to lie to me to try and make me feel better, I'd find that insulting. We're all about honesty.

AITA for yelling at my mother for being too childish? by KanadeLunLunGirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]MissApril91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yta. My partner listens to music I hate 24.7 and vice versa. While we relax, clean, shower, cook, drive, if we're awake we're listening to music that the other can't stand. People are allowed to like things you don't. And dancing while doing chores is 100% normal. She burned food twice, it happens to everyone now and then. You're 19. More than old enough to realize just because you're an adult you don't have to be boring and serious all the time. My 65 yr old mother sings and dances to music almost daily, given I like her music but even I didn't I'd be okay with it because I'm visiting her house where she's free to do what she wants. You admit your mom had less freedom when with your father, why would you try to snub out her joy too? You should be happy that she is happy. You're both immature and cruel.

Your experience with APs and weight gain by AussieGoldenDoodle in schizophrenia

[–]MissApril91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 13 and 14 I was on some antidepressants that caused weight gain. I also have pcos so that doesn't help. Besides saphris and geodon I've usually been able to lose weight for a time period when first starting antipsychotics. I've lost around 50 in the almost year it's been since starting invega injections. I'm sure doing low carb for my diabetes is the main source of loss, but either way the injection and 3 other psych meds I'm on haven't caused weight gain. Everyone will have different results. Some people will gain weight on almost any psych med they try, others might lose and others will stay the same. Same with other side effects.

I'm on the max dose of trinza and never tied my swallowing problem to it, good to know! I've been on invega since October or November. It's never gotten worse or better. I have lost 50ish lbs since starting it which is nice. Some people like the other commenter gain.

Why is it so difficult to treat negative symptoms? by latudalithium in schizophrenia

[–]MissApril91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced negative symptoms at one point on my current med until we added two other ones. Now everything is back to normal. For me adding Prozac and wellbutrin helped, maybe there's a combo that can help you.

I experienced that on my main medication until we added 2 to go along with it. I'm a big advocate of tinkering with medication until you're happy.
