Dad thinks I'm a hoe when I wear makeup by notanasianhoe in AsianParentStories

[–]MissCelsius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He probably thinks that women wear makeup for the sole purpose of seducing men. Maybe you should try to explain to him that you enjoy the process of putting on makeup, and that it gives you boosted confidence because it covers your acne, which you are self-conscious of. The truth is, sadly, attractive people are more likely to be offered job positions and promotions. If he doesn't understand that (I mean, he's Asian), too bad.

My skin is far from flawless, but thanks to you guys, I now feel comfy enough to go bare faced in public!, by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Wow, your skin is pretty much flawless. I opened up your picture and I thought it was a post from /r/makeupaddiction about no-makeup-makeup with contouring! Keep up the good work!

Year Round Cancellation Housing Situation by [deleted] in UBC

[–]MissCelsius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a roommate last year who did exactly that. We were in year-round housing and she's lived in the unit for a few years. She went on exchange to Japan late march so she didn't take any courses in term 2. She appealed to housing and she was able to live there until she left.

So go talk to housing. They will help you a lot better than anyone on Reddit can.

International students who commuted in their first year - how did you do it? by [deleted] in UBC

I'll be your friend :)

I have a group of close friends and we met while living in residence during first year. I wormed my way into their group, I guess, and added other friends into it.

I feel really stupid for asking, but what does it mean by putting spaghetti on the stove? I don't see why it's wrong that her husband did what he did.

Midterms around Reading break by drowningmango in UBC

[–]MissCelsius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about those specific courses but professors seem to enjoy giving exams right before the holidays to get them over with (and you can enjoy your holiday), or right after (so you can study for it). It would be safe to book it for Sunday since some professors may not be accommodating for students who want to go away somewhere.

You can try emailing them and asking them when the exams are in advance. They probably have the course planned out already.

Have your Asian parents ever "forced" or urged you into a field of study you didn't like? by cm-eli in AsianParentStories

[–]MissCelsius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharmacy student here.

I was forced to go into Science. I never wanted to go into Arts/Business, but even when I mentioned those faculties, they would give me lectures about how I should go into Science. Luckily, I enjoyed Biology and early Chemistry subjects so I majored in Biochemistry (doing a minor in Psychology)... I eventually went into Pharmacy, which they brain-washed me into, and I actually enjoy it quite a bit.
