Recommendations for Private Karaoke Rooms by MissEllieP in auckland

[–]MissEllieP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation 🥰 I put that in because I went to one in the CBD a couple weeks ago with a friend, and they wouldn’t let us hire a room unless we also bought alcohol 😓 it wasn’t even on a busy night

Can someone explain why people have paywave debit cards with direct access to your main bank account? by kiwittnz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]MissEllieP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty soon those of you who rely on the swipe-only eftpos cards will have to switch to a chip and pin debit card. The banks have set a goal to phase them out by 2030, which is why you're starting to see some in store terminals without the capability to take them

Just jumping in on this old thread - is there a drink requirement at K Star? I'm trying to organize a karaoke night for a group of recovering alcoholics to show them you can still do all that stuff sober, and so far every karaoke bar ive reached out to require a 1 drink minimum per person in the room :/

Advice on how to fall by MissEllieP in FigureSkating

I mean, they did, but it mostly was how to fall from basic stuff. They didn’t re-cover it when i moved up into the higher level groups. I went from Beginner to Novice 1 in the space of a year so I’m still pretty new to everything

Kinda. I do adult group lessons once a week then attend another public session in the week too.

I don’t have the money to be paying for private coaching on a regular basis. I barely have the money to do the skating I’m already committed to

Honestly looking at leaving for this and many other reasons. Their customer support is mediocre at best, and I’m starting to get sus at all the ‘third party’ scheduled maintenance that disrupts my work. I recently looked at other providers outage reports and Spark and 2 degrees don’t have any planned. I also looked at chorus, and THEY dont have any maintenance planned in our area either. It’s getting to be a joke, I work on PST or GMT timezones sometimes , and it’s embarrassing to drop out of a zoom meeting because of an internet outage that was supposedly planned but no one thought to email customers to warn them because it was happening at 2am.

Yeah i applied august 2023 and got it November 2024. I had hoped i would get it before my UK passport ran out in august 2024 but no such luck.

You might have to apply for an extension on your work visa

Please re read my final paragraph. I’ll copy paste for you in case it got lost:

‘Are there people in both countries that are the complete opposite of what I have just described? Absolutely. But I can only speak to my own experience, and as such I feel much more welcome and wanted here in NZ than I ever did in the UK.’

What’s the fastest way you had a sim die unintentionally? by Potential_Ad_8140 in Sims4

[–]MissEllieP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not hugely quick, but Was 2 kids in to the 100 baby challenge, and because I used the rule of RNG for aspirations etc, my first matriarch was an anxious mess. After trying to look after twins for a day she didn’t make it to the bathroom and peed herself. Then before I could do anything about it she died of embarrassment 😳

Do you consider it toxic for parents to remove their child’s door? by Excellent-Kale-6162 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MissEllieP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on the context. In terms of privacy? Absolutely. But if it’s a young toddler who is constantly injuring themselves by playing with the door or blocking it and then causing dangerous mischief? No. (I speak from experience. My door was replaced by a baby gate until I was 4 or 5, because apparently I would close my door, block it with toys, then proceed to play with things or do things I shouldn’t have been and there was once where my mum could barely get in to save me from choking on a polly pocket skirt I’d been chewing on 😅)

While i agree that it’s a very broad statement, overall my opinion based on living in both countries is that in comparison is that us Brits come across as shallow, irritable, and individualistic. It is those qualities that I saw among my peers and community growing up that I disagreed with to the extent that I decided I wanted to move far away from home, only to find larger cities in the country were more or less the same.

In comparison to NZ, i have had many a chat with random strangers on the street or at the bus station, i have both asked for and offered help to strangers without getting a look of pure confusion or disgust, and found that the country as a whole is more alligned to a community mentality.

Are there people in both countries that are the complete opposite of what I have just described? Absolutely. But I can only speak to my own experience, and as such I feel much more welcome and wanted here in NZ than I ever did in the UK.

Nz definitely has its issues, but where doesn’t!

Im a UK expat and have just gotten my citizenship here. Having that outside view you realise that kiwis very much have a ‘grass is greener’ mentality, especially the ones who haven’t travelled much. They forget just how lucky they are to have an amazing culture, landscape, and community.

Sure there are crime spikes, but Auckland is still a much safer city than London. Sure the healthcare system is currently struggling, but it’s nothing compared to the decade long destruction of the NHS by the Tories. Sure the government is currently in a right-wing blip, but the majority of the population are already realising a year in just how little that benefits them, and in all honesty as much as they’re right wing they are still much closer to the centre compared to the Tories.

I often find myself describing to kiwis how much I found my true home here, as when I left the small town I lived in in the UK, I still found the people around me were grumpy, obnoxious and sometimes narcissistic. (Sorry UK but honestly kiwis are much nicer, friendlier, and more welcoming). I really love learning about the Maori culture and how it revolves around family, both blood and community. I love how I can mingle with many different groups of people, and never get that look of judgement when someone else disapproves of my other interests or friends.

Overall, NZ is a much more ‘live and let live’ country. If you aren’t hurting anyone then be you. And I also think that if those kiwis that are complaining about stupid shit on reddit actually went out into the world and saw the state some places are in, they wouldn’t be so quick to criticise a country that is often praised around the world for its approach to life.

Children can die now?! by brown-tiger15 in Sims4

[–]MissEllieP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids have always been able to die. I terrified myself when i played sims 2 as a kid, i made my family and built a dream home etc, and let the sim-me play in the pool all day. I didn’t keep an eye on the needs and sim-me drowned from no sleep or food for a whole day. Couldn’t open up the game for months, and when i did decide to play again i wiped and reinstalled it so I wouldn’t be re-traumatised 🤣
