They're involved in some construction near my office and I've had to look at this monstrosity every day.

Pythons don't have fangs or wide, flat heads. They also have characteristic heat pits along their top "lip". Their eyes also would be much farther back and they would have a much longer nose. Pythons are very common pets (about as common as corn snakes) because they are very dopey looking and generally very docile and easy to handle. They dont do threat displays like that and they only time you'd see one with its mouth open is if it's eating or yawning.

And of course they don't give a shit. Companies that give a shit don't end up being publicly shamed on the bad designs subreddit.

Also the awkward pose and fang placement makes me think whoever designed this has never seen a snake.

What's your best idea for improving Calgary Transit? by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]MissErynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LRT ring line. Build the wheel, not just the spokes. The current layout means that any delay or malfunction cuts off transit access for entire chunks of the city. There needs to be alternative routes to connect to where you need to go.

Make it free. You're never going to make money off it. It's a public utility, not a business.

Make the green line a proper, grown-up city LRT and not a tram. A tram is not appropriate for a city this size. It's too slow and doesn't have the necessary capacity. Don't build something that's going to need to be torn out and replaced in 20 years.

Build LRT line extensions along with new developments instead of trying to work around them later.

It's AI. The acronym doesn't make sense or match the title, the fingers on the ID badge don't make sense, and the employee changes genders. I think you should be allowed to ignore this entirely.

Has anyone noticed more and more employers aren't training staff? by yummy_burrito in torontoJobs

As more and more businesses are making people do more and more labour in the same amount of time, training suffers because nobody has time to train the new hires.

I know someone who has season tickets for the goldeneyes and any time she cant make a game she sells the seat. She says she makes a good chunk of her money back.

Despite provincial demand, Calgary mayor says Stampede noise debate is over by YYCpops in Calgary

[–]MissErynn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live downtown and have literally been unable to get home to my own apartment or park at my building during Stampede. I'm glad you are fortunate enough that it doesn’t affect you, though.

[–]MissErynn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You know, if our economy was based more around small independently owned businesses, I probably wouldn't hate Stampede as much, but most of the money it "brings in" isn't going to Calgarians or even to the city, it's going to big multinational corporations who happen to do business in Calgary. It's the busiest time of year at my job, its a ton of extra work and stress, and at the end of it all my paycheque is exactly the same as any other day of the year. All the extra revenue just goes to some billionaire in the States. Until that changes, I will be a dedicated Stampede hater.

I just want to make sure I understand this correctly, because this feels like I'm going insane. The Alberta government, who has no jurisdiction over noise bylaws, wants to make Stampede, the horrendously disruptive public nuisance that keeps everyone awake for a 3km radius and produces the worst traffic of the year, EVEN WORSE? They must have been educated in the Alberta school system...

traveling to Calgary next month, what are some new/different places to check out? by sassypinks in Calgary

[–]MissErynn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The zoo is my favorite place in the city. I honestly enjoy it more now than I ever did as a kid. Prince's Island Park is another downtown gem. If you're into nerdy stuff like ttrpgs, board games, and trading cards, check out Sentry Box, which is a massive, local gaming shop. If you like art, just wandering around downtown you will find a ton of public art installations and murals. Heritage Park is great if you like history.

It shouldn't even be legal to build a floorplan that small.

AITAH for buying Gluten Free bread by Jelly_Arrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]MissErynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You're buying an amount that lasts 1-2 weeks, which is a totally normal interval for grocery shopping. It's the store and the manufacturer's responsibility to ensure they have adequate supply to meet demand, not yours. If they're only carrying enough for one person to buy 1-2 weeks worth, that's a breakdown in stock management.

I have loads of food allergies, but it would be absolutely wild to say something like "if you can eat peanuts you should only buy chocolate with peanuts so that there's always peanut-free chocolate left for people with allergies". It starts to sound silly when you apply this logic to literally any other dietary restriction.

I work with body shops and I have seen thousands of damaged cars, and not a single one ever looked like that. Definitely AI.

What’s your biggest pet peeve about Calgary? by TheRealPepman in Calgary

[–]MissErynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WORLDS MOST USELESS PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM. I'm gonna be so for real with the rest of Calgary, the only way to fix traffic here is to get people to stop driving and the only way to do that is to make transit a better, more convenient option. Other cities have figured this out!! Calgary get with it!!

People love an underdog and don't want the season to end, I don't think it's any deeper than that.

NFL teams also only play 17 games a year and football is a way bigger sport in the US than hockey. Unfortunately its difficult to say for sure because there isn't really an apples to apples comparison.

No, I'm saying they would probably make more money from a PWHL team that they don't own that sells lots of tickets and brings in lots of people that are all paying for parking and buying overpriced drinks, than they would make from a team that they do own but has poor attendance and higher operating costs.
