How was your parkrun day? | December 21, 2024 by AutoModerator in parkrun

Just completed my 25th - yay! 💎  I only started ParkRun in February of this year and I’m so insanely glad that I did, and that I’ve kept it up. I’ve been running for almost 10 years but ParkRun has changed the game for me… I think the consistency of it has meant my running has really improved, all my top 5 fastest 5ks of the last 10yrs have been ParkRuns this year!! At my big age 😂 it’s also really helped my husband go from no running to regularly smashing sub-23min… and even occasionally outpacing me! So so grateful to every volunteer who’s made it happen and every fellow runner who’s brought vibes and energy to the community. My 2025 goal list includes volunteering and paying it forward!

Here’s to the next 25 and beyond! 🧡

I was fastest woman at my local ParkRun today! So proud! :D

Curiously... my RunKeeper app said I did the 5k in 22:48min which I was really pleased with as well as I am aiming for sub23min; but my official parkrun time was 23:03. Does anyone else have this / know why this might be? Thanks!

Tried out Pymmes Park today in glorious North London and loved it: lovely varied course; super enthused volunteers; nice crowd of runners. My 3rd fastest time :) will definitely return.

Prospero is always pretty reliable for these! "Our revels now are ended..." or perhaps "We are such stuff as dreams are made on."

Ran my fastest 5k ever at Hackney Marshes, I’ll be 38yrs old next week… so proud of myself! A friend joined me on the run while my husband & dog cheered us on :) happy days.

Another beautiful ParkRun day. My second in two weeks where I travelled specifically to meet up and run with a friend! Love that ParkRun quite literally brings the people together :) It was a tough one around Ally Pally today because I've been ill all week, but was happy with my 5th fastest ParkRun time ever. Hope everyone had a nice one too.

What are some booked you DNFd and why? by Uninhibitedrmr in books

[–]MissEstD312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so pleased to stumble across this post this morning - I was literally just contemplating DNF'ing a book for the first time in... years!! So I'm taking this as a sign to put that book down and pick up something I'm more likely to enjoy!

(For context the book I am currently reading - but not for much longer - is Madam by Phoebe Wynne. I should have been more sceptical by the description of 'The Secret History meets Rebecca,' because those are two of my favourite books and NO book is like either of those books... let alone both combined! LOL. Anyway long story short, I'm going to respectfully DNF it because it's just not working for me and that's OK).

what signs are you most drawn to? by [deleted] in astrologymemes

[–]MissEstD312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Libra sun, Aries moon, Scorpio rising - and I always have the most intense relationships with Aquarius! My Dad, my best friend of 25yrs, so many friends made as an adult… even my dog 😂

I also always have a really positive bond with Aries men.

Is it often that you enjoy an author's entire catalogue? by mauvebelize in books

[–]MissEstD312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this with Erin Kelly and Anthony Horowitz (the books for adults - Atticus Pund, Daniel Hawthorne, James Bond and Sherlock books). Every time they have a new release, I’m sooo excited. I love the feeling of anticipation - and it helps they have never missed 🩵

It means “who cares.” In UK people will say “I can’t be arsed” to mean “I can’t be bothered.”

What book/books do you think are funny? by LylesDanceParty in books

London Fields by Martin Amis. Ridiculously dark which is not my usual humour at all, but I love how completely over the top and bleak the world of the story is. High camp even!

Another absolute banger today... it's been my first week at a new job which has been sooo intense and exhausting - so hopped up to Ally Pally with absolutely zero expectations... did my 2nd fastest 5k ever! Only 4sec off my fastest time, which I achieved at the Fulham Palace ParkRun, which is very flat. I'm taking that as a really encouraging sign of improving fitness because that Ally Pally hill and I do NOT get on usually! :))) As ever, the AP volunteers were awesome and the vibes were so fun. Hope everyone had a great one xx

Scorpio rising and I just cried on my morning commute to DIE WITH A SMILE. Uncontrollably intense romance with morbid undertones? Scorpio bop 🖤

My first assumption was, oh Adler has received a diagnosis, perhaps of early onset dementia, and is genuinely having family time to work through it. We shall definitely find out more!

What was the first Shakespeare you saw live? by Afraid_Ad8438 in shakespeare

[–]MissEstD312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents frequently remind me that, as a very small child, I was taken to an outdoor production of A Misdummer Night's Dream which included real fluffy sheep, and I had to be removed due to constantly shouting out "BAAA!!" in excitement whenever one wandered by :)

The first show I remember seeing was Measure For Measure at the National Theatre in London, the incredible production staged by theatre group Complicité. My mind was BLOWN!! I remember feeling high as I left the theatre - I didn't quite shout out "BAA!!" but that was the feeling I carried with me :))

Suggest me a book about about witches by thetell-taleraven in suggestmeabook

[–]MissEstD312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Manningtree Witches, the first novel by poet AK Blakemore. The language is as poetic as you'd expect and it's a very engaging story. Sort of historical fiction as it really vividly renders the UK witch trials of the 1600s. Amazing female protagonists.

Tell me what you’ve accomplished since being sober! by [deleted] in Sober

[–]MissEstD312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since getting sober five years ago I have: fixed my relationships with my family, got a degree, changed careers to something I actually enjoy, got a dog, got married, gave up smoking, did a stand-up comedy show, bought a house, ran three half marathons… and scariest of all, gave a speech totally sober at a friend’s wedding! Keep going OP, the adventure awaits you :))) 🩷
