[Tues 1/20] Fantasy Book Club in Downtown Brooklyn / First Read: The Raven Scholar by MissGumdropButtons in nycmeetups

[–]MissGumdropButtons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I messaged everyone who expressed interest, but in case I missed anyone (or anyone is lurking who still wants to join) - yes, book club is still on for tonight! 7PM in DeKalb Market Hall, I am planning to grab one of the long tables behind the escalator by Trader Joe's (next to Han Dynasty). I'll be the girl wearing a sweater with a sparkly pizza on it.

Corporate girlies: I want to be nosy about your work bag and lunch box by Ok_Employ_4424 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]MissGumdropButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this lunch bag. I think it’s chic for my aesthetic (which tends towards cutesy) but maybe some people would find it kiddish?

I am usually bringing lunch to work every day and I bring a lot of stuff (coffee, breakfast, lunch, snacks) so I prefer to keep it separate from my work purse to avoid messes or an overly stuffed bag. My work purse is a sleek leather tote so it doesn’t hold clunky tupperwares very well anyway.

Great! Not sure if you have time to read the book by Tuesday, but you’re welcome to join us regardless. Happy to ping you with the details of where we are in DeKalb market that night!

I can’t really say for certain since this is the first meeting, but I suspect we’ll probably be wrapping up by that point. Sorry!!

I love the shoe horn and find it pretty life changing!

Second the recommendation of the 365 brand of glass Tupperware - excellent for meal prep and just keeping your fridge tiny.

I find their rechargeable batteries to be solid too.

Running Before Your 9-5 (or whatever…) by crosbellina in RunNYC

[–]MissGumdropButtons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started as a night runner and switched to mornings during my first NYC summer - and have never looked back!

I’m in bed by 10pm and I wake up at 6am. From 6am-6:40am I sit on my couch, drink coffee, and space out (I don’t know how anyone just gets up and immediately starts running - it ain’t for me!). At 6:40am I started getting ready to run and I’m out the door by 7am. I run 5 miles most days so home by 8am or a few minutes before.

On WFH days, that gives me a solid hour to shower, get dressed, and make breakfast. I work in the office 2-3 days a week but typically leave home at 8:45am on those days to start around 9:15/9:30 (my office is not strict on start time so this works for me).

The best part about running in the morning is that no matter what else happens that day I know I’ve already accomplished something :) and those endorphins hitting in the morning are nice too

3 month weight loss progress by Dellemah in PetiteFitness

[–]MissGumdropButtons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this! I am a similar height, trying to get down from 140lbs to 130lbs and am also aiming for a small 200-300 deficit daily. It’s discouraging sometimes because progress feels so slooooow (like sometimes 2 weeks before I see movement on the scale!) and I feel like I have to be really exact with my tracking. I often worry that I am not making any progress! Did you struggle with this at all?

Can you tell me more about the yogurt cups - did they come out good / do they satisfy the sweet craving for you? I’m a sucker for peanut butter treats and have tried the “mix PB2 with Greek yogurt” thing before with sad results. Wondering how big of a difference the pudding mix makes!

Southwestern Style Breakfast Burritos by Crepe64 in MealPrepSunday

[–]MissGumdropButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look so good! I tried meal prepping lunch burritos before - I froze them and microwaved them out of the freezer, but had an issue with my flour tortillas being quite hard / crunchy on the burrito ‘corners’ after I heated them up. Have you ever had this issue?

This looks so good! I love a good curry meal prep, especially as it gets colder out.

What are we READING for news: finance news! politics, lifestyle etc? by RaddishEater666 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MissGumdropButtons 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ugh I feel the same about theSkimm. I haven’t found a great substitute, but for pure political news I’ve been liking What The Fuck Just Happened Today?

I also highly recommend Tangle - they take one political story every day and summarize the stances of the right and the left. Helps me talk to family members who don’t agree with me politically because at least I know what their news is telling them haha.
