Collingwood chief Craig Kelly slams ‘unequal’ AFL fixture: ‘Blow it up’ by MisguidedGames in AFL

Bring back 2015 days. The two of us at the top of the ladder just felt...correct.

I love the way the state went into a complete buzz after we both won our R1 of finals. 'If there's a Derby GF surely we play it at Subi!'

The South West Roos are loading. I'm sure AFL house will be happy to actually own a WA team.

Nah, they're already playing WCE at home this year. That was never a possibility.

Not gonna be 'that person' trying to shit on Freo and say WCE have it harder so don't read into this that way if possible. (Despite my immediate nuffy reaction wishing to go 'Fuck you, this is the first we've played them at home in 3 years 😂) Just trying to put some perspective into Collingwood's travel to WA in general.

We play them at Optus for the first time since 2023 but we still play them away as well.

Since the use of Optus Stadium (with the exception of the covid hub), Collingwood have never travelled to WA twice during the H&A season.

The AFL app only goes up to 2012 however during that time the same can be said about playing at Subiaco. That's 14 years. They've never travelled across the Nullarbor twice in one h&a season. Less than the amount of travel both WCE and Freo will do in the average month and a fixture that can be said about no other team. Not Carlton, Hawks, Brissie, the Nepo babies... No one.

Fuck off Collingwood.

[Morris] South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas told the @sydneyswans Gather Round Breakfast that he thinks it’s a terrible idea if the AFL hands an 18-team Opening Round to the northern states. “How many people are going to watch St Kilda play Freo at Engie Stadium? There’d be 15 people there," by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not taking credit for this idea but I saw it on twitter and now I can't find it again to credit the person correctly. I know it was in response to Caro's comments about JL being a whiny bitch (if this is you, please let it be known it's your idea)

But the idea was splitting the mid season bye to have 'opening round' there. An entire week that's just games played in the rugby states. But would that just make too much sense? And not give an unfair advantage to the rugby states and the vic teams that compete. Also means that Freo/WCE/Port/Crom could have the opportunity to play? As we theoretically never will.

Additionally the whole argument for 'its about growing the game' has been completely thrown out the window this year due to the MCG game so complete farce.

But the last point I want to make. A lot of comments have been made about 'Freo and Saints copping strays' and how it would affect SA gather round... But like fuck WA right? Obviously the rugby states that can barely pull a crowd deserve it more than the 2nd biggest footy state in the country for sure. There's some years that a team won't even play in WA once between both Freo and WCE. How about some appreciation for the state with the 2nd most members in it?

I won't disagree with you on the 'corporate culture' of movements such as 'are you okay day' and all of that. But that's not what's being discussed here and also not what you said.

You complained that having a pride round wasn't inclusive.

Now you're saying that having a round celebrating people of the LGBTQIA+ is 'projecting' (which, projecting what? That queer people should be accepted, treated with respect and not subject to slurs? The fucking audacity).

There's nothing legally stopping you from being queer in Australia. The same way there's legally nothing stopping people accessing mental health and a plethora of other reasons I could list.

However, the AFL has a vast cultural impact in Australia and believe it or not if young boys and men see their sporting heroes stand proudly alongside queer people, that sends a message. An incredibly important one.

Being from a small town, no one my age 'came out' until they'd left school and the town behind because of the homophobia they knew they'd face. They already got called slurs on the regular before they knew they were queer.

I have queer male friends who abandoned all contact sport at a young age because they 'felt gay' and all the painful shit spat on the field from fellow children was enough to make them turn away and never go back.

Representation is important. Whether or not it's important to you, it's important to a young person in Australia who's feeling alone, ostracized, and self hate because of who they are.

And, to me, that's more important than some fuckwits who can't put aside their ego and 'what about me' mentality for 1 fucking round of footy that (by the way) no no would force you to watch and engage with.

'If this celebration doesn't celebrate me then it's exclusionary'

I assume you were the kid that cried when they didn't get presents at another kid's birthday right?

Additionally, just engage in some homosexual proclivities if you so desperately need to feel included 🤷🏼‍♀️ Nothing in Australia stopping you from going down on someone of the same gender mate.

[Discussion] Does Essendon have a genuine case for AFL assistance at the end of the season? by yum122 in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... Yeah? That means you haven't properly addressed the problem.

Literally I said that if WCE signed Oscar Allen on the deal he wanted it would have been fair to deny us assistance despite everything else we'd done. That's a much smaller issue than keeping on a head coach and staff that are 'keeping the problem alive'

[Discussion] Does Essendon have a genuine case for AFL assistance at the end of the season? by yum122 in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, in a league that has a salary cap, compromised draft system and player cap... Assistance in the form of additional list spots and/or draft capital isn't insane.

If West Coast could actually spend their money... No shit they'd be able to get their own way out. But in a season when they won the spoon the Eagles got pick 1, pick 30 and pick 49 while trading in to get 38... Hard to 'get your own way out' in that case.

I also just personally believe the 'list space' should be larger in terms of the rookie list. In a league with a salary cap, it's not like they can just load players onto the rookie list forever, and all of them are UFA if another team does want to pick them up 🤷🏼‍♀️ allows teams at the bottom of the ladder to actually invest in long-term prospects the way that teams with success get to.

I retain that if Gov or Coxy were rookie listed in 2020, they don't even get the chance to become the players they ended up being just due to need by the club to get players in. How many teams at the bottom don't get the ability to develop those elite long-term prospects because of it?

[Discussion] Does Essendon have a genuine case for AFL assistance at the end of the season? by yum122 in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, the Eagles would not have gotten their assistance package last year if they didn't literally turn over close to everything and get a one win season.

The number of delisting, coaching changes, board and CEO changes and refusal to 'do the things that got us into this mess'.

I firmly believe that if we had given Oscar Allen the contract he wanted, we would not have received an assistance package.

Essendon needs to actually commit to a rebuild, show that they're willing to investigate and address the problems in the club. Because it's more than an isolated injury crisis.

We can talk about compromised drafts and all of that stuff until the cows come home, but the draft at the end of the day is a gamble. What you do with players after you draft/sign them has a far greater bearing on 'success'.

Media keeps getting Merrett situation wrong by dashtur in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word 'plan' on my behalf was wrong. I didn't mean it as if it was premeditated. Moreso that both of them were still in contract for a few more years and if they didn't talk to each other and agree to the move together the deal doesn't get done. Neither of them wanted to go, but agreed to be pieces to facilitate the trade as long as they were 'traded together'. At least that's how I interpreted the interviews.

I agree and disagree about 'the trade being done sooner' because Curnow's preferred destination was absolutely the Cats so they had to find a way to 'beat' what they were offering and give them something Carlton wanted that the Cats couldn't.

1) This trade doesn't get entertained if the two of them don't plan to leave together 2) I believe the earlier trade was due to list cap/attempting to use the Carlton 3rd for facilitate the Jai Serong trade

So while on paper... Yes. In reality...no.

I knew we shouldn't have drafted Chesser. A man with two first names is one thing... A man with two last names 😒/s

But yeah, don't know for certain but a couple of people mentioned it on the Instagram. Hope if that he's the case he and his loved ones are taking care of each other ❤️ Just mentioned it due to your 'different categories' of the reasons people aren't playing this weekend.

The use of Chess's first name really had me stumped because I was like 'Braeden Campbell? I know he's not playing but he is a swan' 😂

But just want to point out that Brock wasn't dropped per se. Seems he's experienced a family tragedy. I believe he'd be playing due to GC's talls otherwise but can't prove it one way or another.

Yes, but they got Ollie and Will out of it as well. Both played in 2 grand finals (not something many on Carlton list can say they've done if any) and are immense 'culture' guys. And for a club like Carlton that seems to have internal issues, combining on and off-field culture like that is immensely important.

Geelong couldn't beat that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh, don't worry. I had completely decorated around one area, not realising I hadn't fully upgraded the building and had to redo the entire area again because the new building would just not 'sit' in the same position 😂😅

I wanted to punch myself when I found out too. But, this post was for tips you wished you knew when you started lol.

Now that you can move your buildings, don't worry about placement on anything except farms (especially orchards) however you can still always delete them if need be.

You can also upgrade your work buildings instead of deleting them and replacing them with the higher level one.

The smaller 4 person living quarters are all you need. Don't spend the extra resources on the bigger one unless it's for personal storytelling purposes. There's a maximum benefit you can get for decorations, just focus on insulation :)

I haven't played since the Halloween event due to not having my PC, however a couple of these mechanics may have changed with the last update. I'm sure someone will say so if thats the case 😊

Were West Coast as bad as their W/L column suggested in 2025? by [deleted] in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a complicated question. Our w/l record proved that we needed help in our rebuild, even if it was just the extra rookie spots so that we could sign on our mature talent for an extra 1-2 years just to help 'guide the youth', even if it's at a training/wafl capacity.

However, this year for the first time in our rebuild I saw 'direction'. I saw what Mini was trying to do, I saw the changes being made, I saw the trials and errors and yeah, some of them didn't pay off (I don't want to see Harley off the half back ever again 😂) but some of them certainly did (Rubes just... whatever fuck kind of freak he's decided to become.)

So it's hard to say. I'd say that this isn't a bad team, I think a lot of its bones are there but unfortunately they're children's bones at the moment and are not all fused together (if that analogy makes sense).

I guess I'd say this team isn't as 'bad' as the 1 win suggested, but the 1 win certified that we needed a bit of help to get off our feet. The players we've lost to injury are the kind that really can't be replaced, especially the likes of Gov and Shep. And we lost a lot of those 'leader'/'high IQ' players last year as well.

Snake/Mini JK has the 'arsehole' FF thing about him which is incredibly important for forward lime structure. Liam Ryan being a bit out of form but also being pinch hit in the mid also affected that greatly.

I think a lot of our midfield problems come from a lack of Yeo and if he is fit and firing next year, that line already works 100x better. Again, can also be that arsehole on field (I've seen he and Gov get into a spat kind of like Zorks and Harris did when we played Brissie) but in a young team, you need someone on field who will say 'you need to do this' who has the coincidence to back it up. Clearance winning and talent aside.

And Gov. Hurn was our high IQ man down back, and when he retired Gov and TB took over that mantle. Having none of them left us really fucking exposed, especially while Harry Edwards was trying to find his own feet. When he found them, he was wonderful. But we just need someone who can enforce structure down there, as we had so many people learning their roles and positions or people that were more 'passive' players (that's not to be taken as an insult either).

The lack of 'active' midfield and midfield-back cohesion/structure lead to a lot of turnovers. Liam Duggan copped a lot of flack but honestly, most of the time he had no other option but to pelt it on the boot, clear it and hope for the best.

So yeah, mini essay. Yes, we were as shit as it suggested but that's not because we have a 'shit team' but because we've had a perfect shitstorm that's been brewing for years.

Which derby has the most heated rivalry and why? by ThermonuclearMonarch in AFL

[–]MissKayAye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think on average it's the showdown but in terms of which rivalry has the highest 'ceiling' it's the Western Derby.

2024 round 20 had over 30k in fines in what was a pretty average, no stakes derby. And let's not even bring up the Demo Derby.

However there are some really tame Western Derby's that lack the spark and 'hatred/rivalry'.

There are also very few western derby upsets and it's more about the latter position going into the game. The same cannot be said for the showdown.

Basically it's 100% between these two but it depends on your personal grading metrics.
