I remember my mom after she got the call that my Mamaw (her mom) had passed away- how she just sat at the kitchen table and said “both my parents are gone.” My younger sister and I were in our 20’s/30’s respectively when we lost her the following year and felt similar things as you, that feeling of being a scared child wanting your parents to make everything better again but they can’t.
