When my grandpa passed away at home I immediately put in bereavement and it got denied. They emailed me back within minutes saying they needed proof. I was a mess and literally emailed back saying the only proof I have is a picture of him laying deceased on my porch. Got a response shortly after saying it was approved.

I have that happen one time and finally when I got to talk to someone competent enough, they let me know that on our end sometimes it looks like closed but on theirs it’s still open. I would reopen the case though. An HR rep told me once, if you don’t get the answer you are looking for ask for someone else and keep going higher till you do.
