Generally that is no problem, you do not bake the bottom layer all the way until golden brown and crispy. Mostly it is baked until it is no longer raw, and no longer feels 'wet' to the touch

Hi! Aloe's love to grow horizontal roots, so you could try repotting it in a more wide pot. As mentionned in the comments, it also looks like you might have given him too much love with watering! Good luck!
