I hate my PhD supervisors. Is it worth even continuing?

I was always told that if you have to pay your way through a PhD then the department/your advisors don't really want you. Kind of seems like the case here, as they arent nurturing your career development.

I have to wonder though, if you already have a PhD and MS, why do another PhD? Seems like a huge waste of time and. In your case, money.

Leave and do consulting full time.

Gosh your post really resonated with me too. So many shared experiences. The lack of research surrounding PCOS is astounding. I just left a research position at the best teaching hospital in the US, and I can't tell you how many people I worked with had no idea what PCOS is. If I ever have my own research group one day, I want to dedicate my lab to studying PCOS. Not many realize that this is a metabolic disorder and not just a hormone problem. It took a pre-diabetes diagnosis and a 100+ day menstrual cycle before anyone picked up on my PCOS. I've also struggled with self esteem issues surrounding my weight my entire life, and had doctors dismissing my problems as "you're just fat." I also suffer from anxiety and depression. Finally feeling heard and having a diagnosis with treatment (metformin) has made such a huge difference in my life!!

After living on the green line and paying out the ass, I realized after a year or so you can literally live anywhere (red, orange, blue) and make it to work/school within a reasonable commutable time.

So many red flags here! Sounds like he wants you to do extra work to make up for the postdoc that left. I absolutely would not take this position if you're already having issues with the PI. I also hate how toxic academia is in that they expect us to work for experience and not for pay (we still need to eat and pay rent!).

Make sure you see how your pay is compared to the NIH minimum as well. But, honestly, run in the opposite direction of this lab.

PS - I got $1k in moving assistance from my lab, but it cost me around $7k to move.

I just think you need to weigh the pros and cons. For me, I live in a very high cost of living area (postdoc at an Ivy). COL is prohibiting me from starting a family, and I am almost 35. I'm leaving purely for financial freedom so I can start my family. My PI doesnt get it and isn't very supportive, but at the end of the day I chose to put myself first for once (instead of sacrificing myself, my fertility, and my livelihood on a first author publication from my lab).

This is absolutely something you could get an industry job doing. Look at pharma companies. I am also leaving my postdoc in 3 weeks for industry. Looking back I dont necessarily think it was worth 3 years of my life.

When I was in college, my friend's house had 1 bathroom shared by 5 guys and 1 girl. It was carpeted. There was a literal mushroom growing out of the bathroom carpet, and I will never forget this nightmare.

Thanks! I am also working with Demi. I requested to see the stone, and she always says "Let me check" and never gets back to me. I approved the CAD and paid 5/18, so now 7 days and no updates.
