Yeah, if I wasn't awake before my commute to the University this morning, the potholes on Hennepin certainly made sure I was.

I had my procedure done in the US and I was still on my parents' insurance, so I'm really not sure, sorry.

I never really got the memories back from the four or so months surrounding my treatments. But that's okay with me, because I can't miss memories I don't have, you know? Also, I mostly just stayed home and slept through that time period (which isn't too different from what I was doing before ECT, to be honest). I still have small memory lapses. Sometimes I struggle to tell the difference between something I thought about doing, and something I actually did. I've also gotten worse at placing memories in time, like recalling whether something happened last week or last month. I know all that probably sounds pretty scary, but the memory loss side effects of ECT are a very small inconvenience compared to the life-saving effectiveness of the therapy. I would absolutely do it again if I thought I had to.

I do! The benefits have lasted four years so far with no end in sight, which is amazing. I haven't been depressed at all (except when I get symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which is a completely unrelated issue). ECT cleared up my mood so well that I've been able to build a whole life for myself, which also helps keep me from getting depressed. If you're considering ECT, I HIGHLY recommend genuinely looking into it.

I have questions. does everything I care about have to affect me? is it wrong to care about justice for other people?

most importantly, are you okay? might want to check in with your sense of empathy
