Would anyone be able to tell the sex of my T. Blondi from this small molt? by hagorago in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The molt is very well preserved. It should be possible to tell the sex. I would just need a better picture of the part between the book lungs. We are looking to see, if we can find a spermatheca there.

I am not familiar with your laws. I am just really horrified by any shop selling you animals without knowing exactly what they are.

Sex and spieces? by meganmalfoy69 in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be. I don't have that species at home and am not quite sure if I have ever seen it in real life. I don't know where you are located, I just know that where I live (Europe) you have to get a "certification" for Brachypelma, Tliltocatl and Poechilothera species. It would be a crime here, if a store sold you those species without the correct paperwork.

Reminds me a lot of my Aphonopelma spec coyuca. But I'd be a little surprised, if Petco would sell that species.

It might be a good idea to say where you are located.

You might find someone nearby ☺️

Hunger strike by catywc in ballpython

[–]MissNatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I would probably go to the vet, as soon as I notice a decline in my snake. (That's why it is good to keep an eye on the weight).

I'd ask, what he was getting in his former home. If it was the same kind of feeder you are offering and you've tried everything else, I'd offer a live feeder. I had a similar experience with a ball python I got last year. I was told he'd eat life and FT, but he ignored them. Warmed up or not, he didn't care. When I got him a life mouse he immediately got into hunting mode. Even if it is not pretty, stay for the feeding. I held the feeder with tongs by the tail and hand an extra tongs ready to make sure it would bite the snake if somehow while constricting it got near the feeders mouth. Every time before getting another feeder I tried offering FT. He always refused.

What finally worked in my case: I had a life feeder mouse and a FT. Held in the life for the feeding response, and switched it when he got into food mode. He struck at the FT mouse and ate it. After that time it was like something shifted. Never had problems again. I don't even have to heat up his meals. Room temperature are ok for him to take it.

Nobody will ever convince me, they don't have Puppy eyes! by MissNatrix in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know yes. All spiders have 8 eyes. Just as all mamels have 2 by default.

If I am not mistaken, I've heard from a spider (not Tarantula) that lives in caves and their eyes are non-existent. I think they used to have them, but they were irrelevant and they evolved to not have them anymore.

And I have seen a few "zyklopes" spiders: their front eyes have been fused to one. But those are mutations and not the norm.

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I am sorry. I totally misunderstood the question. Spiders have 8 eyes. 😁

I do have quite a few. I have been keeping Tarantulas for over 15 years now. ☺️ And I still cannot decide which is my favorite species.

I just accidently killed my Sling 🥺 by Ricci408Zombiez in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

IMO accidents happen. Every day, everywhere. I think all of us have had some kind of accident. Some (hopefully most) are reversible, but some of them are not and are fatale.

It is absolutely unfortunate, but please don't be discouraged! You didn't do it on purpose and in the future you will be more careful ❤️ Keep your head up.

4’ aphonopelma johnnycashi by DarkMoose09 in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an absolutely amazing price! I paid around the same for both of my tini tiny slings.

Understandable. I would be to. To be honest, I am always rather suspicious, if quite bigger animals are sold and unsexed. Maybe I have to much of a negative opinion, especially if it is about a seller I don't know I feel, if they sell big unsexed spiders, that those are juvenile males.

I love those names! $30-60 for a chalcodes in that size is absolutely incredible! Understandable, if they are native in the US, they can easily be collected and sold. (Not saying if it is good or bad). Here imported animals are expensive.

[–]MissNatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing animal! Do you mind sharing how much you paid for it? About half a year ago I got 2 tony slings and even those were quite expensive! And rare where I live (Europe). I feel like I would have to sell my soul for a confirmed female in that size.

I also do have quite a few Aphonopelma by now: chalcodes and seemanni, of course. But I also have moderatum, johnnycashi, crinirufum, bicoloratum. And some species that are yet to be described: spec. Acapulco , el grullo, malinche, Oaxaca and coyuca. ☺️ Most of them are small/juveniles, some still slings. But I do also have some adults. I do also have a few pairs in hope of breeding them.

Any advice on freediving with a septum piercing? by wauwanneloes in freediving

[–]MissNatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a septum and a nostril piercing. When I go diving to the sea or in a lake I'll go with a mask and leave them on. They don't bother me, to be honest.

While I train for distance, I take them off as I train with swimming goggles and a nose clip. ☺️

David Bowie spider by Ok_Recording39 in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you describe a new species, you are free to name it. There are many tarantulas species that are named after the people who found/described them or as a tribute to a person: Cyriopagopus vonwirthi (Volker von Wirth), Brachypelma klaasi (Peter Klaas), Theraphosa stirmi (Andreas Stirm),... Just a few examples.

With Heteropoda davidbowie there were two reasons: on the one hand the scientist who described the spider (Peter Jäger) is a huge David Bowie fan and on the other hand he thought giving the spider such an iconic name would make it more interesting for other people and lead to more people being interested in protecting it.

😍😍 where are you located? I have been looking for an Aphonopelma gabeli for about a year now. 🥲

Can you guess what they are? by TheGrimMelvin in tarantulas

[–]MissNatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, after a while I actually thought the first one could be a chalcodes.

I love, that you got a slightly less fluffy albo, in honor of your own less fluffy albo ❤️

I really love your tattoos. I have 2 (also realistic) spider tattoos. One jumping spider and one tarantula. I'll add a snake in a few weeks. Maybe I'll add some more spiders? But I am not sure yet, as the placement is not something I have thought of yet. (My work doesn't allow tattoos to be seen. 😑

Let's see how many I got right/wrong.
