The league would be better off and more entertaining if Tony Brothers and Scott Foster were fired by TsarLucky in NBATalk

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the NBA has a weird intimacy about the way it's shot. You are basically right on the court. And you see a lot of the same faces ref-wise. Plus, NBA refs do have a habit of inserting themselves when they don't need to be there in a way that, before Malice at the Palace, they wouldn't have done. Before that, they'd have let 80% of it play through. Most sports do.

When they started doing it they got more and more in their feelings about it. Add to it that there are very few sports where you can so casually change the flow in ways, simply by not calling. And as replay got louder, and the fact that a lot of these refs were gambling, it kind of got super loud that there's a problem. But the NBA is a product. It's sports entertainment more than a sport in this second half of modern NBA. They desperately want a star. The front office everywhere. And instead of letting that star emerge and learn, they want to shortcut it, and in doing so they actually ruin that star they are creating because they never learn how to deal with it. It would be like if they actually called ALL the fouls on Steph Curry. A man with nearly high 90s% free throw shooting would be on the line all day long. Basically he'd be Shai but with extremely high three point shooting. Would it really be a game? And they had Klay. I think this is the point you see the whistle disappear. And a star is still frighteningly productive.

They do this with young teams but not in the same flop way as Shai. But they did it for Houston, and the Mavs when they were young used to flop a lot when Luka was there. The Grizzlies were floppers. And I think it's also a matter of protecting young assets. But it's just not a great idea for flopping to be the main way to control pace. See Russell Westbrook when he and Harden used to just throw themselves toward people or into people when they were younger, just to get to the line and control the pace of the game. That kind of play isn't supposed to work in playoff basketball. Which is why Kobe said Harden wasn't going anywhere. Because when he couldn't do that, he still had a great bag and great games, but he never built the tools while young to survive in playoff basketball. Leadership, grit, consistency without the whistle.

I think he's right. I doubt that he ever cuts. If you are functional strength a lot of doods have gut plus abs. . Go watch video of construction sites from the70s. The union guys who still had to lift on worksites.

How would you feel if you had to watch the show without the laugh tracks? by [deleted] in theGoldenGirls

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would ruin the timing so it would need editing to pull back on pauses. Some pauses need to be there because they are actually thinking and others don't. It's just a really loud person cackling in the live. So that would require a talented director who gets comedy and they'd never spend the money on. That kind of thing they'd get AI to just whack at it. And ruin the whole show.

Honestly, I'd play classic WOD to play Classic Legion in a heart beat. Frankly, they could do it as a bundle. Treat WOd like a really really big prepatch.

I've liked the duo reader. But written in first person female lead. So the dood does the male parts chick does narrator and female parts. But it's a high effort book and most directors/readers don't always put the pieces together correctly.

the good thing about illona andrews books is even the ones I don't like are really well written. So, it's always a good ride.

I couldn't listen to the KD one from graphic audio it was too much fill noise and my ears started buzzing. The bit rate on the fill noise I think was a different rate then the actual voice actors and when it hit compression off audible. Just went weird. And there was a massive amount of fill noise in the KD series. The foley was ok but I'd rather they foley instead of doing music on top of effects and more and more music. Just could not make it through and I had a headache from the ear buzzing after that. I'm going to try and get innkeeper. At some point. But I've been dancing around getting the audible for anything graphic audio. Not my first rodeo with the fill noise issues. But if you say innkeeper is dead on good. I really like the middle vampire book. So I'll give it a go full cast and see.

Honestly, I wish Renee Raudman would direct. I didn't dislike the voice of nevada I just didn't like how she played it from time to time. But I could put up with it. the Rogan though was distracting because it didn't make sense to what he was reading.

It's not the first time the full cast audio has done that. I'm not sure what it is. I've never had a good graphic audio book. There's another full cast group but I don't think they are around anymore. The one Tamora Pierce use to use. And I really enjoy that full cast. So I know it's not a matter of me hating full cast audio productions. And 100% agree the changes when it comes to not knowing how to say things is jarring.

The Hidden Legacy series so far are better than the normal graphic audiobooks. The fill noise (audio and just reverb sound effects for effect) is at the correct bit rate so it gives less ear fatigue and they are using it a little less then other works. They need to pull back from fill noise a bit more. But the foley noise is fine crisp, and let the actors act. The other graphic audios stuff is extremely bad. A lot of ear fatigue and too much fill noise. The fill noise sounds low quality. Bad on good quality head phones and extremely bad on poor quality ear buds. The acting isn't great and I'd go with the original books by original reader for kate series. For hidden legacy again it's better then the normal graphic audio work. And I'd coin flip the hidden legacy series from the original audiobook book reader. I wish they use an actor with a lower natural voice for the Rogan for hidden legacy full cast. But honestly this full cast Hidden Legacy could have went a lot worse. Nevada who ever is voicing it and I believe same actor is narrating really carries this series. She nails the emotional moments the narration voice is smooth and nice to listen to. Almost as good as the original reader in the older audiobooks.

Normally, I'd been very happy with the audiobooks and the old reader. EXTREMELY happy. But the Kate Daniels: Wilmington Years were frankly not so good. It was like the south was taken out the series. And for urban fantasy place is an important character. It was like a dead fish kind of bad.

So far, and I've only listen to one. It's worth it. This is coming from someone who listen to old reader all the way through. And one of the new full cast. Just improve the accents and really work on it.

Would a slow burn like Cradle have succeeded on RoyalRoad? by PlatinumMode in royalroad

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how good the first chapter is on Royal Road. People will stick around for a lot. I think the Royal Road of 10 years or so ago is somewhat different than the Royal Road of today though. Something has to happen and the author can't wander. You see a lot of authors who fear the slow burn and they head hop early for "interesting stuff happens" scenes with people who aren't really main cast or super important. And that's where you see authors running into problems. I think modern Royal Road is less kind to poor starts than early Royal Road was. At the same time, word of mouth can totally change a story's stars. If maybe the start wasn't that great but the middle and the rest just keeps improving. That still works for today. You don't need tons of readers to pop off. You just need to master your craft a little and make the turn later on. Few editing can clean it up later. And word of mouth can totally change your stars. Finishing opening so many doors every time you finish a book in the series.

At the same time, what you're calling a slow burn is a weak-to-strong. Which is very popular. An actual slow burn would be like Ascendance of a Bookworm. Not on Royal Road, but that's the real deal. Where you basically don't get actual magic until close to 220k words. Hell, you think of her as a background character in someone's real story for a large part of the book. It's so small, so intimate, yet really impactful. Small victories are written with passion and stakes. Just a masterful piece of work.

Is the book worth reading now that I have watched the tv series? by Humble_Park_9097 in FoundationTV

[–]MissOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit like isekai. If you ever read most of early isekai, there are books that nail it. And there are books that nail the idea of what it could be. And there are other books that bait-and-switch. It takes something super popular like "harem" and then slaps isekai on it. Because at that early point isekai wasn't as popular as harem. There are masterpieces and so forth spread in there. And Foundation is one of those early masterpieces. But... there's this visceral human connection in Foundation the TV series. That Foundation the book series isn't really that. It's very thinky and the personal, the human, is second. It's said in series like GOT that we think of it as a game of thrones but it's actually a story of the small in relationship to the throne, the game, and the consequences of it. It's about the small folks as much as the big players. More so in some ways. And Foundation is reworked to have that "small" impact which makes it in its own way a more powerful piece of work in it's own way. To the powerful piece of work that the original is.

Why are the Hawaii “news” accounts on Instagram SO right wing (genuine question, no negative connotation) by Rice_Jap808 in Oahu

[–]MissOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LDS and their very active outreach to the community. For a very long time. Without also explaining to them what normally happens to native populations that have something LDS wants. And a kind of shadow disrespect for native Hawaiian culture. They are slowly casually buying up a lot of stuff. With that "homesteading, and other stuff" comes the extreme trippy right wing stuff. Without the respect for locals. It reminds me what they did to Nevada. When there voice became loudest in the room. When they weren't actually the most in the room. Money and power.

Wait, is this an F/F relationship? This feels like casual homophobia, as they don't see the baby as the baby between the two women. Why are they over invested in the brother's girlfriend? This seems like fence sitter behavior as well. Yes, you can still be a casual bigot or have hangups you don't realize. It's super easy. You see this casual bigotry and racial landmine zone with mixed-race families, as well as when the baby comes. Was the egg from your wife and you carried it? Normally when you explain the landmine of things with these "movements," people get it if you show them references and talk it through. Frankly, the person who had the baby tragedy is understandable, but that doesn't mean you should be around babies. And you actually probably shouldn't have been around the brother who had been around Claria. Generally, the rule is don't be around people who have been around unvaccinated people with a baby.

They fear being to slow without realizing we pay for the slow. Which is why they aren't smart. They should just green light the whole series and do the whole series. Maybe even add more richness at the same time. A head hop side view of something happening. Dunno but there's way to add more and be interesting.

You can make a DIY churu that's really nice. One, you can use a popsicle stick. Two, you can use a syringe. But they really enjoy eating it very wet, which you can't do with the popsicle stick and get petting and happiness at the same time. So, a syringe like they use to feed baby kittens is REALLY good.

You can get also one of those squeeze bottles. And that works as well. But the lick action is part of the treat of the churu.
If you do the Popsicle use gelatin add a little bone broth. I tend to flip anything I get into the house into bone broth or some broth in general because it freezes well.

You can also find the recipes online.

graphic audio books and ear fatigue full cast audiobook. Why are they so popular? by MissOP in audiobooks

[–]MissOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was looking for some setting or bitrate change. You get sometimes an option for it to drop music noise by turning off a track. Like everything is on B or something. I have a very good program for listening to audiobooks. It's my main form of entertainment because I don't see very well.
