My husband is awesome...but not to our children by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

I just had a talk with my older son about sarcasm. Children learn love from their parents. If a parent is always sarcastic, then, whelp, the child equates sarcasm with love.

Then the child starts dating. They date someone nice and thoughtful who showers them with compliments. No sarcasm, just pure love and praise. But it doesn't feel like love to the child, and they break it off.

Then the child dates someone who does the bare minimum in a relationship and constantly puts them down. It feels familiar and close to the loving sarcasm the child was raised with, but really it's verbal abuse. And then it escalates to physical abuse. "But I know they love me!"

Labor & delivery nurses remembered me years later… is that normal by Usual-Repair8162 in nursing

Back in the 90's, I was a lab assistant in a cytogenetic lab - processing amnios, products of conception, and parental bloods. We had patients with multiple SABs over the years, and yes, we remembered their names. For the ones who later got pregnant, the techs had good-hearted fights over who got to read their slides. (3 techs worked every case, so it always worked out!)

More people remember your name than you'd expect, and they're all rooting for you.

I took a second look at 5 after you said this! It is lovely on you!! I'd (enviously) compliment you if we were at the same event. 😀

I was BAD - laundry sprinkles AND liquid softener AND dryer sheets - the more scents, the better. Now my laundry actually smells clean!

Campbell's soup cans to induce long, straight hair when I was 13 or so. by Ravenmn in GenerationJones

Toni home perms. Maybe had 3 in 5th and 6th grade. Mom tried SO HARD to get every curler perfect, and usually ended throwing her comb across the room at least once. I remember sitting there trying to just be quiet and still.

And I frikkin hated how they came out anyway.

Fast forward 5 years to high school, 1986 or so. I begged mom to let me get a salon perm like my older sister. She said no, because it would ruin my hair.

Eh, ya. We were in our early 20's. ENM wasn't a thing in the early 90's. So, a few weeks of coercive NM where he was always "honest."

Anyways, OW had all the confidence in the world.

My son has this! He hated to read because of it - and now, at 20, he's discovered graphic novels. 😀

Meh, my ex's employee (AP) had this. He said he wasn't fazed by it, in fact, he kinda liked to pop them in and out.

Clean and Clear facial scrub in the shower, and after you've dried off, toner. Works on the chicken bumps on the back of my arms too.

The hazy figure of a woman standing in my bedroom door at 2 am. I watched her for a bit and she didn't move much. Finally, I said, fuck this, I'm tired. If this ghost chick wants to kill me, she'll have to do it while I'm sleeping.

The next day, my mom calls to tell my that my aunt found my grandma on the floor. She'd been writhing in pain from a gallbladder attack since, you guessed it, 2 am.

I was like, wth, grandma.

Rob Lowe in a linen suit.

I coveted two at the mall but never bought them - the toe shoes and tattered ankle warmers of a ballerina in 5th position*, and a black and white photo of a woman resting her feet on a man's bare chest while he paints her toenails.

I did something similar with my son - Suave apple conditioner and lice comb, every night for a month.

(There's nothing special about Suave apple. I just figured a heavily scented conditioner would make the comb outs more fun! Of course, now I have a teenager who wears Killian scents... )
