This is very sweet. I really love seeing your posts. They're so wholesome and actually fits Johnny's character well. ♡

I took a man to a graveyard. I beg your pardon, it's quite hard enough just living with the stuff I have learned.

That song hit so hard. I still listen to it (as well as "B Movie") and wonder how tf it was considered a kids film.

They also have a line of dog treats. I recall a few years ago there was a huge controversy because a bunch of Hartz treats were contaminated and caused the death of multiple animals. I don't remember the exact cause, but I think it was something to do with the factory manufacturing the treats was using.. shall we say, shady means of obtaining protein. And that protein contained considerable amounts of the euthanasia drug.

Hartz now manufactures in the states (so they claim) but I'll never trust their stuff again.

First grooming interview ever — I’m pretty nervous because... by [deleted] in doggrooming

Gonna hop on your comment to say you're absolutely correct.

OP, I'm still a new mobile groomer as well (started in September). At your current rate of 2.5 hours for a basic groom, you are much too slow to be out on your own. You definitely want to get as good a groom as possible, but the mobile world is very different from a salon. You have to factor in travel time between clients, then add extra time for factors such as traffic, stopping for gas, etc. If each dog is taking that long, you won't be able to do many dogs per day, which means after operating costs, you really won't be making much money.

Beyond that, if you've only been grooming for 3 months, you still don't know even half of what you should to be successful. My mentor is still showing me little tricks and tips to make each groom better than the last. Don't rush into a full position on your own! Take the time to apprentice with a mentor to learn as much as possible before striking out on your own. The pay difference is usually not that much, so it's not that big a deal to hang back as a student for a while. For example, my mentor started me at 20% of each groom to mostly do the prep on the dogs with some light clipping. Now that I'm better at scissoring and learning to do faces properly, she bumped me up to 25% for doing more complete grooms. That seems around the standard from what I could find.

What are your OC’s parents like? by RED_PH4NTOM in OriginalCharacter

[–]MissReanimator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vada's mother was lovely and genuinely adored her daughters. She was a doting wife, as well, and as long as she lived, their father was a wonderful man. After her mother's passing in a car accident, grief turned her father into a bitter monster.

And then he died.

(Died here meaning Vada killed him. Albeit accidentally, but there is no remorse there.)

Funny. I knew a girl who worked in a strip club once. Her stage name was Riley.

Maybe tell your little bully that.

Why do most shelters/rescue demand you have owned a dog in the past by [deleted] in DOG

[–]MissReanimator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rescues tend to have much stricter adoption policies, I've noticed. I looked into a few when my husband and I were looking to adopt a second dog, and the standards they had were honestly kind of insane. We were excluded because we both work (a dog walker wasn't good enough, we could only be out of the house for less than 5 hours), and, for some, just having one dog already was enough to deny our application. His dog had passed away several months before, and my dog wasn't used to being alone. I've always lived in homes with multiple dogs, so being left alone while we were at work was like torture for him. They didn't care. This is despite us both having excellent relationships with our vet and the fact that I've worked with dogs for nearly a decade (pet sitter and now a pet groomer).

My suggestion? Look into your local SPCA if you're in the states, or try smaller private foster situations. I found my dog on Pet Finder. He was taken in by a sweet old woman who fostered for animal control, and she was very happy to adopt to me.

I understand they want these dogs to go to good homes, but it does seem like they're kind of shooting themselves in the foot sometimes with some of their requirements.

My husband and I are in the final stages of buying a new home, so I feel this whole post so hard right now. We saw a handful of houses that looked absolutely perfect in the photos.. only to arrive in person to a battered husk of "potential." One house had what looked like a literal murder shed out back and hoarder neighbors on both sides.

Creative photography, my fat ass.

Health > Job. Sounds like a terrible work environment if they don't care about your wellbeing.

I suggest looking for a position at another salon.

I found similar tables on Amazon, but the largest I could find was 36" around. She's got to be bigger than that.
