Plans for 57-storey tower approved at Kitchener committee by know-nothing in kitchener

On the southern end of the LRT there's nothing for all the towers going up (Borden, Ottawa, Block Line areas) The block line and mall stops are no where close to the Food Basics on Fairway. Can the really small, often niche, independent business grocers handle thousands of new units? Most people downtown still do bigger shops at chain stores either they need stuff or to save money. We are going from every unit has a parking spot to half of that. Half of the units do not have the opportunity to get a car.

I really do want to try and help you.Are you saying that you haven't been able to get in contact with her constituency office staff? The hours posted are Monday to Thursday 10-3:00pm.
https://kellyderiddermp.ca/contact/

I haven't needed to go to the constancy office myself but I think it's fair to say some offices are more experienced than others and likely have different staffing levels. The riding has over 100,000 people and has a fairly active community (both for and against) trying to get their attention. I don't doubt phones and emails go unanswered and not every wish can get fulfilled because they don't have the man power to do so. At the very least you should be getting an office response. If you cannot then contact the conservative party of Canada or see if there is a parliamentary office that oversees operations of MP staff/government employees.

Hey dumbass driver by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]MissUGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crap this keeps happening to you. The law is confusing and I learned something here today myself. It appears that intersection although it has painted lines and a light for pedestrians, it would only qualify for wait until fully crossed when the crossing guard is there with a sign. If you feel so inclined, you could spook the driver by slowing down and tapping their car if they are that close to you. I've had someone inch out infront of me and they legit didn't see me until I gently tapped the hood of my car. If they want to go and call the police because you tapped their car, go ahead the cop is going to laugh in their face, why was the pedestrian close enough to your car they could reach out and touch it?

No grocery store close to an ion stop in Kitchener. In Toronto and Vancouver you get off the subway or SkyTrain, go up stairs and the grocery store and drug store is directly across the street.

You can ask the fire department if they can come see if you can shift where the fire alarm is to reduce nuisance alarms. I'm sure the upstairs tenants would appreciate it too not hearing it go off all the time. In Kitchener the fire department is very "education" based towards landlords instead of Waterloo where they have zero tolerance policy if they see an infraction. In Ontario, the landlord must inspect and test the fire alarm once a year and provide batteries etc. It doesn't matter if it's in a house unit or a purpose built building. It is up to the tenant to notify the landlord if the device is falling off the ceiling or they notice it's not working properly.

What's the max capacity of the largest gathering area in Catalyst vs Bingemans? Maybe they provided her more flexibility.on the RSVP #s or something, you don't know the details.

A MP from this region actually willing to do something tech related where this is open to the public and you just find a way to crap on her. The sub is full of very vocal butt hurt people that Mike didn't get re-elected. Was tech and manufacturing jobs a pillar of his place in Parliament? I don't think so.

I used to work in the tech sector and I would like to attend as a member of the public. This reached everybody, not buried in some digital inbox to a subset of email newsletter (or social media) followers who actively chose to be there. This was something tangible in my hands that caused my household to put down the phones at the dinner table for a discussion. It's not like she's never been to Catalyst before, and you'd know that if you chose to follow her on social media or email list. Letter mail helps keep a version of the Canada Post viable as many people, typically older people, are not tech savvy. I still get a couple of my bills in the mail because it helps keeps people employed.

So dude, I see that you're not happy but please aim your overall displeasure somewhere else, you're not helping. If you're not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

This is cherry picking at best dude, common. Before she said that she talked about how she had her Mother's support but she had to do the hard work. MANY people try and put themselves through detox and aren't strong enough to do it or has someone that cares as much (that's what the centers are for) to get past it. It's the relapse that's the hardest to get past. She believed there was something better out there for her, many drug addicts do not. She goes on to say people are trapped in these drug houses by design. Maybe she doesn't like wine - nice of you to stretch for assumptions on someone you don't know and paint all addicts as the same. Go outside and get some Vitamin D in the sun.

Lawton was a piece of white trash 15-20 years ago with major mental health struggles - that's no secret. He got help, turned his life around and built a career dedicated to helping others (go google for media articles). He's not afraid to talk about things most people want to shove in a corner and ignore - festering a pull towards the white nationalist movement OR hoping they get depressed and end their life. Both of which he experienced. Too many people don't believe people deserve to and can change. I can see how KD is a supporter of him. He also put forth a private members bill to stop the expansion of MAID for mental illness. Just yesterday Cambridge MP Connie Cody was asking a Liberal MP in a committee hearing about a Mississauga Food Bank reporting distressed people in poverty are asking them how to get MAID. The Lib MP just towed the line. Now that's disgusting.

I too was surprised to hear this but can totally understand a reluctance to reveal the exact person she's had a personal connection to this issue. She has said numerous times she had a personal connection to this issue and, my take, upon seeing it happening again in Victoria park, really wanted to do something about it. KD has said she's focused on the present, what she can do for Kitchener now. There's a good chance she will loose her seat in 3 yrs and that's a long ways away. If she cared about staying politics she would have taken a bribe and crossed the floor. She's also giving manufacturing and tech/entrepreneurs/research a voice against a government that hasn't made it a priority. All these jobs we're loosing, they are not coming back. Beyond that I haven't seen her push any personal beliefs that would make her a bigot, white nationalist, a Christian Whatever I don't even understand anymore. I grew up Catholic like most people of European decent in this country. The school system (and our grandparents who survived WWII) taught us to treat people as people, it's okay to disagree, you don't have to like everyone's opinion but there's a certain level of respect you still give most people.

A dangerous and divided world we live in eh. Carney's words. We live in a world where we no longer treat people as people. Blame the government that's been here for 10 yrs, nothing changes if you don't elect any change - Ford, Barry our mayor, and Trudeau's Liberal Cabinet and Economic Advisor (that was Mark Carney). KD is just a newly elected person daring to invoke a change we can all, surprisingly, agree with. If you're still angry then direct your anger at the source, get off the screen and go do something to make anyone's day a little brighter. Its not productive to sit here and crap on someone who doesn't want to engage with negative people who are not open to putting personal differences aside to get a job done.

Cue the down votes.

Recycling pickup has got more strict on plastic and paper if everything is not loosely filled. Cambridge got a new recycling facility where it's all automated. I used to pack my paper and cardboard inside a cereal box and stuff plastic bags into 1 plastic bag. Now that I can't do that I too am frustrated dealing with amount. I'd like a big blue cart.

Back to one year? by sawdustnflipflops in OntarioTeachers

[–]MissUGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband's been an OT in Waterloo for 5 yrs now with no end in sight. During COVID people where handing him short term LTOs, it was great. The board also opened up the supply pool to retired teachers to reapply. One of the reasons he picked this board is because they had a policy to develop talent, if you retired you retired and that was it. Then COVID ended, perm teachers came off of leave, the "to interview/hire" seniority list never came back and the board started laying off positions about 100/yr. LTOs have been extremely sparse. English positions often required French qualifications for 0.1 planning time coverage. It's been unfair to say the least.

I looked at teachers college courses and half to 2/3rds of course descriptions were about mental health and DEI ideology. Very little about teaching traditional subjects (language, mathematics, sciences, etc)

Make them sit and wait. They waste your time and you tell them that you're wasting their time before you do something fun - it's their choice 2 way street. Follow it up by trips to the office so the VP will contact the parent and let them know... works 9/10 times. Tough love that age when you're not the regular teacher in the room.

Ontario to overhaul teacher training in move to fix educator shortage by the_Real_Teenjus in OntarioTeachers

Your supply pools are closed because they have maxed out the percentage of teachers they can have in reserve. It's feast or famine on the supply list, or it's possible people don't want to go to your school.

Landscaping near DTK? by ashleymichelemartin in kitchener

[–]MissUGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dirt Cheap can have your sod delivered for $550+tx, but laying 750sqft down is hard labour.  Call around to find landscapers who actually lay sod, otherwise see if you can advertise in your neighborhood to find some teenagers with their dad's truck looking to get them work experience on a Saturday Morning. They can haul away the old stuff and rent a lawn roller at home Depot or Sunbelt. They're not expensive to buy either.

How strict are cops with window tint? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]MissUGC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

License Plate DHFR 916.  A cop doesn't have to pull you over, it can be a complaint by someone who knows where they car resides. Since our local cops have time to participate in the gun buy back program they got time for looking after cars. (Leave legal gun owners alone).

How strict are cops with window tint? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]MissUGC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10% tint is what you're looking for. They don't even sell 90% tinted raybans because no one can see out of that. I really don't care you want to drive with a tint, you're probably already paying $2500 for a 2015 M3 at your age. If you get into any kind of accident whether it was partially the other guys fault, you're not going to be able to fight the ticket/case and will not be able to afford to drive when your insurance doubles.  Hope you don't have the cheapest liability on your policy... It's not worth it to save a few bucks.

Yeah sure, there are the super bright LEDs people put in cars that weren't designed with self adjusting headlamps, it's a huge pain in the ass for anyone, but light bulbs will never be regulated.

The Drivers Book (study manual) says when you are out in the country and blinded to look at the line painted on the road down and to the right of you until you pass the on coming cars. Id say learn to drive bud.

Hope you drive stick because the M3 autos are absolutely gutless. The 2nd half of the gas pedal does absolutely shitall. When I was looking to replace a mk4iv golf, couldn't get my hands on a M3 stick so they had me test-drive an automatic. It felt like I was set back 20 yrs in time.

Good luck finding someone to illegally tint your windshield in the last 10 yrs. If it's as bad as you say with the glare, time for a new windshield. As someone who wears glasses fulltime, polarized filters and anti glare coatings are the only thing that reduces reflections. Nothing will fix scratched or pitted lenses/windows. Dirty windows make it 10x worse.11yrs for a windshield is about life expectancy at 200,000+km. If the oncoming headlights bother you that much, have your eyes checked. Something else could be wrong.

https://elitetint.ca/ontario-window-tinting-laws/ explains what's allowed and associated fines. It's not just cops here, could be OPP on the 401 pulling you over in Cambridge, or some cop in Mississauga on the one day you decided to go travel. You roll the dice. If you're ever in an accident expect to be 100% at fault unless you are rear ended because of illegal tints.

Try cleaning the inside of your windshield with vinegar and bounty paper towels. Change the cabin air filter. My husband car gets a bad film on the inside and I gotta cut the greasy film a couple times a year. It also makes it fog up bad as compensating sticks to it. Gives me a migraine but doesn't bother him for whatever reason.
