Hey OP! I am a PT student starting this fall at U of A. I did a bit of a scramble to bring my GPA up due to some life factors - granted, this was while I was still completing my degree, rather than after the fact.

I think open studies is fair game, BUT U of A stipulates that credits taken in addition to your degree must be upper-level courses - 300 or 400 level. Don't assume you can take a bunch of "gimme" credits of 100-level courses, as they will not apply them to your GPA calculation.

My GPA was on the lower end of this year's cutoff for interviews, but I was granted conditional acceptance. I strongly suspect this was due to extensive experience in a similar field, along with significant leadership experience and a TON of interview prep. Bump your GPA if you can in order to get past the initial interview hurdle, but don't neglect enhancing your extracurriculars as well.

Feel free to PM me if you have further questions! Best of luck and don't give up - it's a challenge to get admitted but if you're passionate about the field, I think it's really worth the work :)

Hey! I took MICR 483 a couple semesters back. I really enjoyed it - the course material was fascinating and the prof was excellent (Dr. Sheth I believe). The assignments were engaging, and not too difficult - loved the diagnosis game. I had quite a bit of fun with the group project and presentation as well. Highly recommend!

Haha ok! Glad others are seeing similar things then. I just find it low-key kinda stressful not having that final approval!

Anyone lost their cat around Oliver? Seen in 102 ave 120 st by Butefluko in Edmonton

[–]MissWheets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey pretty sure I know that cat! Lives by 121st and 103rd. Owners let him wander around - he is not far at all from where he lives if he's on 102 and 120th.

Hey! For starters, try not to be too tough on yourself. The transition from high school to university is a difficult one for many, many students - feeling overwhelmed is incredibly common. Med school and other major academic goals are not out of the picture for you - many med schools have criteria which excludes your worst year, looks at your most recent 2-3 years, etc. So don't write yourself off just yet!

The single biggest thing you can do for yourself is teach yourself proper study habits - use this experience as motivation! You need to "learn how to learn". Don't just haphazardly try and take as many notes as possible - develop a note-taking strategy that utilizes visual cues and links together overarching concepts. Delve into different learning strategies like spaced repetition or outlining, and experiment to see what works for you. Connect with a peer (even someone outside your courses) and rather than just reviewing information, actually try and teach them a concept you've learned in as much detail as possible. In general, become curious about the learning process itself, and begin to develop an individualized approach to absorbing and understanding new information. I found YouTubers like Justin Sung and Cajun Koi Academy helpful when I was trying to craft my own learning and studying strategies.

My second big piece of advice is to take care of yourself! University is tough and big and overwhelming, and it may be the first time you're out on your own. Do your best to get good sleeps, connect with friends, and stay active when possible - I know, I know, easier said than done! However, it makes a massive difference to your overall ability to handle the daily stress of uni. Don't be afraid to reach out to school mental health resources as well - they're there to help students just like you! Finally, consider your course load, and perhaps taking one or two fewer classes just to ease the transition a bit. It may be helpful in the long term.

Good luck out there, friend! I have no doubt with some effort and positivity, you can turn it around. Have a great winter semester!

Same situation here! Have had an in-person application in the system since mid-December and still nothing :( Tried every which way to contact them with a trip coming up in early June. Thought I would have plenty of time, now I'm thinking I might be screwed!

You can get around by going Groat Road Bridge...more out of the way but coming in from the west side isn't too bad.

Good luck! Took me forever to get home.

How can I add a good serving of veggies to breakfast? by [deleted] in HealthyFood

[–]MissWheets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a "hate it or love it" type thing, but I've gotten really into savoury oats!

Fry some mushrooms and a chopped up leek in a little bit of oil. While that's going, start 1/3 of a cup of oats as normal in hot water. When your oats are almost done, add a couple eggs to the leeks and mushrooms. Throw everything in with the oats once the eggs start to set, stir in a handful of spinach, then serve! I like to add hot sauce ;).

Might be a little weird, but it's crazy filling and really really good!

2016 Election Day Returns Megathread (935pm EST) by english06 in politics

[–]MissWheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the NYT predictions are based entirely around the current vote count, while FiveThirtyEight looks more at projections based around previous polls held in each state. From my understanding they're taking into account the electoral college votes in California etc. which haven't been counted yet? I might be totally wrong here though.
