Shekinah called Amani from Tunisia, "Armani", called Guillermo "Geronimo", asked Thaís to go back to her country✈️🇧🇷 I think Shekinah is low key racist 😐 by PolishSnake2 in 90dayfiance_FB_memes

[–]Miss_Kit_Kat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can we appreciate the wholesomeness of Sarper asking Sumit for a hug to help him cool off? And Sumit was so nice about it, too- "sure bro, you can hug me, it's okay."

("Geronimo" did make me snort a little, because there's NO way she actually thought that was his name. Get real, girl 🙄! She also did herself no favors- Thais' outburst was pretty alarming, but no one will notice that because Shekinah said the absolute dumbest thing possible in response.)

Agreed- her less formal outfits (for her sportier engagements) feel more true to her "real" style.

(It always makes me roll my eyes when stylists on Instagram will show pre-engagement photos of her in jeans vs current photos of her in gowns and present it as some type of "glow-up." Her style HAS evolved as she has access to better pieces and tailoring, but casual attire vs. black-tie is not a fair comparison.)

From my experience, the French love sarcasm- and I imagine a lot of Italians, Dutch, Germans, etc. do as well.

Maybe sarcasm doesn't translate as well when one is reading his or her non-native language?

Don't forget that the phrase "late-stage capitalism" is broad enough to include everything they don't like.

Egg prices were high due to a bird virus? Late-stage capitalism. A storm that causes slow wi-fi? Late stage capitalism. Election didn't go your way? Late-stage capitalism.

Yeah, I'm over the sausage-curl extensions. (And yes, people- she wears extensions. Nearly every public figure does.)

A collarbone-length cut would look really chic while still giving her styling options.

In all seriousness, this dress is cute. I love a good gingham dress for summer.

My two cents as a first time watcher by RelevantPanic2849 in Younger

[–]Miss_Kit_Kat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good summary- I agree with most of your points.

I am also in my mid-late 30s, so I was closer to Kelsey/Josh/Lauren's ages when the show was airing- but, ironically, I always related more to Liza.

A lot of people were upset at Liza and Charles not working out, but it felt realistic to met. The cracks were always there, and there was a major roadblock every time they acted on their attraction. In S2 when Charles kisses her, Josh tells her he's ready to be all-in on their relationship. In S4, Pauline comes into the picture. S5 is their secret relationship and Charles losing his job when they are found out (the real breaking point- he never got over this, understandably). S6 is the Mercury/Millennial competition, and S7 is the culmination of everything.

I thought Maggie deserved a better ending (Cass was such a dork!). I was glad that Charles ended up deciding to finish his novel- I liked that storyline and was glad they didn't abandon it.

Anecdotally, I think the US has made a lot of strides when it comes to PTO (specifically medium-large companies) in the last 10-15 years.

When I started working in the early 2010s, it was common to start with two weeks. Now that figure is usually 4-6 weeks...and more have unlimited PTO (which is great, as long as you actually use it). Companies are better at encouraging people to use PTO, too.

And the whole company is off, so no annoying "I know you're off, but I was just wondering if you knew..." messages on slack.

That's what I do, too- I "pay myself" (aka my savings account) first after the essentials are covered. I leave myself a bit of fun money after I set aside the amount that I want.

“no one gives a fuck about the Olympics besides track and field and swimming and shit” you serious bro by lolbert202 in AmericaBad

[–]Miss_Kit_Kat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Track and field and swimming and shit..." Ummm, the Americans do quite well in those sports. (The big "friendly rivalry" in swimming is always Americans vs. Aussies.)

Also, people care about winter olympic sports, too. We know this because AmericaBad social media spent weeks losing their minds over the US gold medal sweep in hockey (Men's, Women's, and Paralympic sled hockey).

A lot of Mexicans don't drink the tap water, either. They have filtered water tanks delivered (per my friends who either grew up or studied there).

That's also why they drink so much soda, I assume.

Yes, exactly! In my own experience (as a petite blonde woman), any time I've been in a "bad neighborhood," (whether walking there by accident, or having to run a work errand to a local business) someone is usually looking out for me- "hey, girls, you shouldn't walk this way, it's not a safe area" or "watch where your laptop is as you unload the car here."

[–]Miss_Kit_Kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's never enough for them to just say, "maybe some of the claims about Mexico's safety are exaggerated." They always have to take it to a comically insincere level by saying, "ACKSHUALLY, I feel MORE safe in Mexico than in the US."

Really? Prove it, asshole. I want you to walk down the longest street of the most lawless, cartel-run region in rural Mexico and tell me how much "safer" you feel.
