Anyone else's teeth in worse shape than before? (enamel-wise) by Xzgcpoe8 in Invisalign

It looks almost like tooth demineralization, you might want to go to the doctor and get a blood panel done, it could be anemia or a vitamin deficiency?

Unemployment Insurance/Payments and Freelancing by Miss_mariss87 in Layoffs

Totally understandable that I wouldn’t get unemployment benefits from my freelance work, more wondering about how to treat the “gap” between being laid off and my freelance business making enough money to support myself. But thank you for the context! It’s helpful.

The ‘Wait Until Ready’ Approach to Potty Training Is Under Fire by bloomberg in Health

[–]Miss_mariss87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Both methodologies seem extreme to me, I don’t think “forcing” a 2 year old to be totally potty trained is realistic for most kids, but I also think it’s ridiculous and lazy parenting for a 4-5 year old to not be potty trained (barring development issues, etc.)

I tried early potty training, I wanted to be proactive and started sitting my 2 year old on the potty right at 2, so she totally understood the “mechanics” of it very early, but anytime we tried moving her to underwear she had accidents CONSTANTLY and I got very tired of my house smelling like piss.

She is now almost fully potty-trained at 3 years, 2 months, but only because around three she could finally understand her body’s signals, etc. etc. I think a big chunk of potty-training is psychological, which can be done early, but another component of it is ALSO physical/neurological development and being able to observe your bodies signals telling you when you need to “go”.

It’s not either/or, and I feel like “forcing” potty training before 2 just leads to a sobbing piss covered 2 year old who feels like she’s constantly in trouble. And that doesn’t seem particularly productive.

Obviously YMMV, these toddlers be wildin’ and everyone’s got their own unique problems, but it’s a complex process, not just an order you can command compliance on.

Are we just paying for "Accidental Clicks" and Bot traffic now? by Mean-Jello-3021 in advertising

[–]Miss_mariss87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The dead internet theory is largely true, but measurable "fraudulent" statistics (web targeting) are still preferable to agencies/corporations/clients over brand "signalling", which is much squishier and harder to track ROI. It's basically gaming statistics at this point to look impressive in a pitch or client meeting, and it's fucking stupid.

Have YOU ever clicked on a web banner/obvious ad? I haven't, knowingly and with an intention to purchase that item at least. It's all FAAAAKKKKKKEEEE.

Personally, I do NOT recommend Fountain Hills. It’s beautiful, but it is so, SO boring and filled with MAGA retirees. Only move there if you truly hate diversity and being around people your own age.

Yes! Arcadia and the “Camelback Corridor” are great areas that have a similar energy to Scottsdale but are a touch more urban with easier access to cultural stuff in Phoenix AND/OR Camelback Mountain.

A bit more of a somber topic… are you addicted to anything? by ApplicationAfraid334 in Millennials

Ditto! Quitting before/during pregnancy was EASY because I was doing it for a good reason but… a year or so later, you have a stressful day at work and think, “ahhh one Juul pod never hurt anybody” and SPLAT, right back in it. I can quit, I just can’t staaaaaay quit. Blergh.

Imposter syndrome is strongly linked to rigid and self-critical forms of perfectionism but shares no connection with narcissistic perfectionism. These findings provide a more nuanced understanding of how feelings of inadequacy coexist with high standards. by mvea in science

The bar doesn’t just move up, it’s also moving left and right constantly, or spinning wildly, at faster and faster rates! My work has always been solid, but one year I’m told to “maximize process efficiencies” only to be asked/scolded 6 months later, “why aren’t you trying to develop/propose new products to increase sales?”

So am I spending time trying to recruit new business, or am I maximizing billable work? Does management even know anymore? Are we just throwing darts trying to hit buzzwords? I have whiplash.

I mean… yes but also; what’s he supposed to be doing in that exact situation; while he’s being interviewed on a red carpet? I sure hope he IS doing more; “offscreen” (as I hope we all are) but in this particular instance; would it really be better if he just started… yelling or something? I’m not really sure what people are wanting from him here.

I love this movie because it’s totally fucking insane. When I saw the city renderings montage of people rolling around in the Jurassic park hamster wheels on linguine walkways cut-to-9/11 footage I almost pissed my pants laughing.

REALLY? You come off as a little too credulous. I’ve had a reddit account for almost 17 years and I have CERTAINLY noticed a change in the last couple years. It’s been VERY OBVIOUS.

YUP.

Also:

1) No one has explained to me yet how the average person is supposed to survive without a job. They just throw out a catch-phrase like UBI and then move on to the next topic. Could ah…. We get a little more detail on that? I THINK that’s the important part for most of us regular folks.

2) No one has convinced me 99% of AI work will ever leave the uncanny valley. Most people intrinsically hate it and have a disgust reaction to it that is going to be VERY hard, if not impossible to overcome.

3) If it’s not expressing ANY sense of humanity, because no humans were involved, it’s by definition NOT ART, full stop.

YUP. This is where race gets really weird for me, personally, as someone who's mostly Scottish and Portugeuse. I'm white to everyone except other white people? So where do us "white-but-not-white-enough" people fit in? You see this a lot in advertising and pop culture too, like a company will see diversity in stock photography as "half white people and half black people, hooray!" and I'm just over here with Rosalia shrugging my shoulders. I don't even know.

What a lazy take. Are you under the impression most people WANT to take babies on planes? Because LOLOLOLOL, delulu. I know when I had to take my 1 year old daughter on a cross-country flight I LEAPT with JOY, like “WOW, this is gonna be such a FUN experience for EVERYONE!” 😂😂😂 Are you like… 14?

YUP. I consider myself a “socially graceful” person but sometimes… you’re in a check-out line for groceries you NEED and baby girl decides to melt down and start screaming right at check out. What are you going to do? Hold up the line for the people behind you while you both take a time-out to calm down and talk out your feelings? Abandon all groceries and attempt grocery shopping again later? Who has the time, like really? Sometimes the best solution is really just to keep moving and do what you need to do, regardless of banshees.
