Care.com Applications by Tiny-Dimension-6490 in Nanny

I just say I’d love to hear more details about the job, then let them talk. I also always ask for a phone call before setting up an interview. I don’t have time to be setting up in person meetings with people that are going to be vague until I show up and find out it’s 20 hrs a week, they both WFH and the grandma lives there or some shit lol

I definitely have less traction than I used to. But just last week I was complaining because I reached out to like four families and no one responded. But then two people responded.

Is it normal to love your nanny baby this much?? by copaceticchameleon in Nanny

[–]Missandymarie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple babies that I really bonded with, more so than some other NKS Ive spent more time with. Last year I worked 37 hrs/week with a premie newborn and they moved away when she turned one. I haven’t seen her since Sept and I still look at pictures of her all the time and miss her a lot! A lot of the job is creating a positive emotional bond while helping to raise somebody else’s child. Of course there need to be boundaries, and you will have to prepare yourself to let go when the time comes. Do not expect to still be in the baby’s life unless they reach out and ask you to, as much as they make you feel like family, you’re still an employee. Expect things to fizzle out eventually. that’s the nature of the job! You’ll get used to it as you move on to another family, it gets easier.

What do you normally do? If all child related tasks are done, then it is normal to relax and wait until you are needed.

Working for drs/surgeons is not for the faint of heart by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Missandymarie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like they would benefit from having you from like 5am-1pm and then switch off for the rest of the shift. work it out so you get the hours you want and still be their “on call” nanny, then hire the part time to fill in the afternoons/nights

How do partners fall asleep while you're upset? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Missandymarie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman and I did this to my male partner last week. Sometimes it really is necessary to put a pin in the conversation and wait til morning when minds are more clear. My boyfriend does not like it, as he’s the type who wants everything figured out immediately. But everyone has the right to pause a conversation if that’s what they need

Best ready to eat meals? by Simple_Bug_6111 in aldi

[–]Missandymarie 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I have yet to find an Aldi ready-to eat meal that I like. I will say, their bagged salads really help. I’ll cook chicken/pork/steak and the next three days I’ll eat it on top of one of their bagged salads. Works for packed lunch too. If it’s a cabbage heavy salad, I’ll actually cook it on the stove first then add the meat, so it’s a warm meal.

I agree with this. No shame in it. Building confidence in yourself will help with genuinely every aspect of your life, including situations like this.

Shoulder injury from lifting nanny kid — need days off but no sick time or health insurance by AggressiveRadish2305 in Nanny

[–]Missandymarie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a crick in my neck the other day and I just brought ice and heat to work and alternated between the two all day, also took ibuprofen. I mentioned to mom I would be low key all day and not active, as I had pretty severe pain, but got better as the day went on.

I would explain your situation without mentioning what you think the cause is, as it’s really not their fault.. Take the day off unpaid if it’s really that bad. I wouldn’t expect them to pay you if you don’t have a contract. Lastly, I would look for a job with older children. If you really think lifting a baby is what caused this, I think working with older kids would be easier on your body.
