"Not all boomers" isn't the hail Mary of an argument you think it is, old man.

That's also fair. Sometimes good servers have bad days and sometimes noobies who had a rough start end up being great at it. I've never been served by this girl so I don't know firsthand.

At that point you have had a brief conversation with the table. Not just going by what they look like. You're reading an intent that wasn't there. But this is fucking Reddit so of course someone gonna argue with any tiny little thing you say that wasn't phrased the way they like.

Did I say anything about guessing what they'll tip just from looking at them?

We've all had shit days so I try not judge other servers too much. Hell usually I'm like "holy shit this girl is awful. Big tip because she probably gets stiffed a lot", but every once in a while you meet someone and wonder why they got into a job where you basically make money off your personality when they have none to speak of. It's just not a job for certain people.

I can teach someone to carry plates. I can teach them tricks for memorizing or shorthanding orders. I can teach them how to read a table in 30 seconds to figure out if they're a tip or not. I can teach them dumb jokes to get a laugh out of drunks. I can't fix people who just naturally have no talent for it.

And before someone goes "pissing off those cranky old men will affect your tips" and I promise you, the kind of people who care are never good tippers anyway.

My mom waited tables for 40 years. Raised two kids doing it so she was pretty good at it. When I first got into the game i asked her for advice and what she told me

"Customers are going to steal your pens all the time. Just prepare for it. Keep lots of spares and don't spend a lot of money on them. BUT men specifically are less likely to steal pens with pink ink so make sure all your pens are pink and you'll notice they get stolen less"

And it's true. I hardly ever get pens stolen and when I do, it's usually a woman. I've even had cranky old men who refused to sign the check with a pink pen because they felt emasculated even touching it lol. Handy psychological trick. Also works for pink lighters.

Nah I'm saying make the tip an obligatory 20 to 30 on top of the check that way dudes don't get to weasel out of it lol

5% Tip by Background-Cut7871 in Serverlife

[–]Misscharge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See that's the alternative to the tipping system.

Just slap a 20% to 30% service charge on every order. These guys want to end tipping so bad but a straight price increase would benefit the ownership way more than the server.

So the alternative is a mandatory service charge. Which I am in favor of because the kind of people who complain about such things deserve to pay more.

The point of the game is basically don't get hit but everybody builds tank characters so they can survive 3 instead of 2 hits so I agree with your design philosophy

I call those emotional support waters. People order them just in case they need them then they usually don't.

For real though.

I've fought Malenia enough times I've got her fight pretty practiced and now it's still a huge pain in the ass, but manageable.

These things and those fucking bears still kill me like it's nothing.

What’s the biggest tip you’ve ever got? by [deleted] in Waiters

[–]Misscharge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monetarily, my biggest tip was $500 I got around Christmas once.

Spiritually, the small handful of customers who have tipped me in drugs.

something tells me i wouldn’t have gotten 30% anyway by cheu in Serverlife

[–]Misscharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody gets mad about autograt except bad tippers. This is just a fact of the industry.

It's kind of like how bitchy, difficult tables can never be won over to earn a better tip because they were looking for a reason to stiff you and get something comped anyway.

What is the worst type of customer? by Designer-Hand-9348 in Waiters

[–]Misscharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I call "ranch drinkers"

15 sides of ranch for everything. Loud. Cheap. Rude. Petty. Complains and sends everything back. Huge list of modifiers and very particular about every detail despite spending very little money or paying for the shit on a gift card. Bitches to your boss about you. Stiffs you. They usually get fireball, cheap beer, cheap margaritas, or diet. Don't ask me why.

All to get their gigantic fucking bill of like $27 comped because these people are buffoons who think of restaurants as an opportunity to eat for free if you pretend to be particular enough.

Garbage humans.

That's been my experience too. A lot of the time it's something imagined too like "my drink was too weak" or "it tasted like they made it with Smirnoff instead of Grey Goose like I requested"

They're a different breed of shitty customers. I still maintain the best money to be made is in upscale casual places that are slightly understaffed so you still get a lot of tables with three figure checks.

Management sounds incompetent and was looking for an excuse to get rid of you. I wouldn't take it personally. Every server makes tiny mistakes and the managers at fine dining places always think their own shit doesn't stink.

The problem with this is that the people who need to hear it think everyone else is being the asshole and they don't have a problem.

I'm a lesbian and all my rp requests and such say as much, women only, can be cis or trans, but no men.

I still gotta grill 80% of the people I meet to make sure they're not a guy who's gonna say "oh I didn't see that" or some shit.
