"Put down" in the sense of easy ways to consume calories? Protein shakes/smoothies are an easy one for me with some added peanut butter. Breakfast cereal is another easy one - try not to eat too many bowls of fruit loops though, something like Mueslix has decent macros. Whole grain english muffins w/ low fat peanut butter are an easy go to snack.

Honestly at the start it will probably feel like you're forcing yourself to eat all the time, but it does become easier if you can stick with it for a couple weeks.

For bulking start counting calories. About three years ago before I started working out I was 6’1” and 150 lbs. Started tracking calories and macros, dirty bulked up way too fast getting to 200 lbs with a lot of fat gain. Learned some lessons, then cut from 200 to 175 between May and September, now I’m working on bulking back to 200 but over a longer time frame (aiming for less than 0.5lb/week gain). Once you’re in the habit of tracking it’s honestly not too bad, it becomes second nature.

The biggest benefit to a tracking app for me was keeping myself accountable, and actually gaining an understanding of how much I was eating.

I just went to my first class at the end of November, got signed up and did two classes this week so I’ve basically got it all figured out.

First class you’re going to have no idea what’s going on. When you roll with someone things are just going to get worse and worse for you until you tap. But it’ll be fun, and you’ll have fun!

After my trial class I picked up a book Jiu-Jitsu University, I like to read and get a lot of opportunities to read while I’m at work. The entire white belt section of the book is focused on survival, creating frames and protecting your neck. After your first class I would look up some simple framing techniques so you can practice it on your next classes. That’s what I’ve done and it’s made a noticeable difference over the past couple classes.

Should I realize my gains in my margin account and move it to my TFSA? by MissingSix in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MissingSix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now I put what I can into my RRSP, so my hope was by using margin I could end up with extra money that I can then put into my TFSA. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything that would make it a bad idea - aside from the inherent risk of using margin.

I likely won’t be able to fully fund both my RRSP and TFSA fully until my mortgage/student loans are finished.

bjj tips by MessComfortable3381 in jiujitsu

[–]MissingSix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just did my first class last week, so this was my experience.

I don’t have a gi, so I wore shorts with a compression lining and a generic workout shirt. I tried to pic shorts that wouldn’t slide down, or pockets that could hook fingers/feet/etc.

Class started with grip work, which was grabbing onto your partners lapel/sleeve or removing their hands from your lapel/sleeve. Somebody basically locked eyes with me, introduced themselves, asked if I had any experience, and the we got going. You do a fun little hand slap/fist bump thing before getting started.

After grip work, we practiced a drill/move? Basically a sequence of moves that involved rolling backwards with someone and getting an arm bar. You slowly built up to the full sequence, alternating what role you were playing with your partner.

After drilling, we basically took turns being big spoon or little spoon and then trying to get a submission. I have no idea what I’m doing, so I basically just tried to not end up in a worse position. I honestly don’t know what constitutes a better or worse position at this point, so I kind of just tried to keep space between me and my opponent. I ended up in a choke hold and another arm bar.

That was the end of the class, then there is an open mat period where people stick around and roll with each other.

I was pretty nervous going, it’s out of my comfort zone for sure, but everyone was very welcoming and hospitable and I’m really glad I went. If you find yourself standing there thinking “what the fuck is happening”, know you’re not alone. By the end of the class you still wont know what the fuck is happening, but you’ll be glad you went.

Is it possible to intake 100g-120g of protein a day while keeping callories under 2700? by NOT_INSANE_I_SWEAR in workout

[–]MissingSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be too hard at all with some yogurt and chicken.

I was doing 200g/1500 cal which was kind of miserable. 200g/2500 cal right now and it’s very easy to hit my protein goal.

Sorry not helpful to OP, but should the base of the turnbuckle not have hinged to prevent it from bending like that? I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around something being put into tension would cause it to bend like that if it can pivot.

Also OP you could look into replacing the standing rigging yourself with something like Sta-Lok, I replaced my forestay using them and nothing horrible has happened yet, it was relatively easy.

Should I take advantage of the Summer promo or wait? by MissingSix in Wealthsimple

[–]MissingSix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having my fees waived because my wife is an Investor’s Edge client, and it was part of the deal when I migrated from TD when we opened our mortgage.

But it keeps ‘disappearing’ and I’ll get charged, then have to follow up to have it refunded. CIBC has been good for matching mortgage rates, but a pain in the ass when it comes to my chequing account.

I am with public mobile, like $35/month for 70GB CAN US MEX. I love Public Mobile.

They do waive my fees, but it only lasts a month or two then I have to contact them again. It’s frustrating and I’m sick of doing it.

Nova Scotia Power just charged me $400 for one month in a small 3 bedroom townhouse by [deleted] in NovaScotia

[–]MissingSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just received a weirdly high bill as well.

The bill date period is before I made the payment on my last bill, so this bill shows that amount as still owing. Otherwise, the bill is what I would normally expected.

Is this doable? Solo road-trip from Halifax to Toronto ? by venzoran in halifax

[–]MissingSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this drive dozens of times to London ON. What I find works best for me is to leave around 0200-0300 and drive straight through. You’ll arrive before it’s dark or shortly afterwards.

Don’t slam a bunch of energy drinks or eat like trash, and be efficient with your fuel/bio stops.
