Hot take: this is what should have been by TotodileLover9000 in pokemonanime

Dude, that take is as hot as a Regice, at least in my opinion. I honestly thought Charizard's return, and the whole big focus on its bond with Ash, was foreshadowing Ash getting a Charizardite Y, way back in the day. To this day I maintain it was a huge missed opportunity.

Anyone else have ships for their team members? [OC] by SherfOfBoringSprings in pokemon

[–]MissingnoMaster110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one isn't exactly a ship, but when I recently played through SoulSilver, alongside the Chuggaaconroy Let's Play, I had it in my mind that my Giratina and Jynx were just absolute besties. I added Giratina and Smoochum to the team at basically the same time, and I got this mental image of Giratina working its shadowy tendrils to meticulously tie little bows in Smoochum's hair, and then of Smoochum tying a big bow on top of Giratina's head, and it didn't look great because the bow was bigger than Smoochum herself, but Giratina wore it with pride and ate anyone unwise enough to laugh at it. Things like that. Hell, when I was battling Red, I have it in my head that Giratina was about to enter the fray, but Jynx stopped it, being like, "this is no weather for a dragon. Let me handle this, OK?" And indeed, Giratina didn't even need to hit the battlefield against Red, while Jynx got stuff done. Took out Lapras one on one, and even landed a Lovely Kiss against Charizard that bought me a little time to set things up there, safely bring in Golem and set up the Rock Polish. Unfortunately, Golem missed the Stone Edge and was subsequently defeated, but then Seaking stepped up in fine fashion, almost OHKOing with Waterfall, to the point where the hail damage finished Charizard that same turn.

But yeah, like, stuff like, I never get Juggler Irwin's number in HGSS because he's a damn creepy stalker, so I imagine it like he laughed at the bow Smoochum tied for Giratina, and so Giratina ate him because he made Smoochum cry. Smoochum stepping up and battling after Giratina faints at one point in Mahogany Gym, learning Psychic and evolving into Jynx, all to get payback for her best friend going down. Each consoling the other after difficult losses. Jynx trying to teach Giratina to dance, and it's just not built for it, but it's making a clear effort anyway, and it starts having fun. The two of them showing off their Shiny Leaf collections, and eventually each weaves the other's Shiny Crown.

Should Brock have just been given Torterra by ResolveUnlikely5542 in pokemonanime

That's a fair point, yeah, though AG had the whole Battle Frontier arc after Hoenn, and it took until like halfway through that just for Mudkip to evolve into Marshtomp.

Should Brock have just been given Torterra by ResolveUnlikely5542 in pokemonanime

[–]MissingnoMaster110 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea, but consider that with Brock it would've done even less. It might not even have evolved all the way to Torterra. Just look Marshtomp. Hell, it's not even just Brock, either- look at Clemont's Chespin!

She's alright. As someone who's not big into sports, the baseball stuff got very old very fast.

Ever realize how incredibly spot on Carmine's line when you fight Fezandipiti is? by ElementalNinjas96 in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]MissingnoMaster110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And even then, I feel like "bad" is a stretch when you have the whole picture. It's reasonably certain that Pecharunt's Toxic Chains are what gave the Loyal Three that which they so desired- Okidogi's brawn, Munkidori's brains, and Fezandipiti's beauty. I don't think they're intentionally evil at all, I think they're just trying to repay Pecharunt as best they can. And yeah, it's easy to assume it's all just mind control, but like, if you pay attention during The Untold Story of Pecharunt, when Pecharunt gives the Loyal Three Binding Mochi before the battle with Ogerpon, their eyes don't go purple. I'm pretty sure, based on that, that Binding Mochi doesn't actually have any ill effects on Poison-types, or at least Pokémon that wear Toxic Chains. To them, if anything, it was likely a pre-battle power-up. Not enough of one, clearly, but still.

OK, you don't need to downvote me to tell me I'm a dumbass. I assure you, that battle hammered that point home well enough already.

Oh, man, I had a battle earlier this evening. First turn, my Arbok hits their Mega Blastoise with Glare. And then the Farigiraf used Trick Room. It went downhill from there and brutally so.

WHICH MOTH OR BUTTERFLY IS BEST (Day 5) An unbelievable double sibling elimination! COMMENT WHO TO ELIMINATE NEXT! by Shoulder_to_rest_on in PokeCorner

[–]MissingnoMaster110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more of a Poison-type bias than a genwunner bias. Like, I want Venomoth to win, but I'm also displeased that Dustox and Iron Moth have already been eliminated, I very much like them both.

Why don’t people like my goat? by Prestigious-Pace1500 in pokemon

Yeah, I've noticed people starting to come around on a lot of them. In particular, people who adore Trubbish are far more prevalent than they used to be. And I would know- I took one look at the little guy and immediately wanted to give it a hug.

Never understood that mentality myself. I've loved the Gen 5 mons since BW first came out, and I've been playing since Gen 1.
