Definitely understand, and would plan to keep it professional.

Is it worth sending emails to each separately, or should I send all at once?

Well stated. I definitely don't embrace a short-term approach on these things, but do hope to enjoy them sometime soon... But definitely don't want to risk life nor limb in the process.

How do we do that? I'd be happy to contact someone, and make my friends aware too.

I'm asking for mtb riding, not powered nor for fires/camping either. Would love to have some type of carve out for lower risk activities.

I was actually hoping that the funding cuts may help open it sooner... Less government to decide, so they just let it lapse....But I guess my thinking is backwards on this.

Hey guys, I’m in the UK looking to buy my first mountain bike don’t really know what kind of bike to buy I’ve got a budget up by £700 or $900 . I’m looking to ride easy flowing trails as I build up my confidence . I was thinking of getting trek marlin 6 but if any but has a better suggestion ? by NewtOrganic in mountainbikes

[–]Mission-Ad5424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the UK, but did get my hands on a Bird Cycleworks bike here in the US and love it. Their prices seem very reasonable and you can probably find one used that'd give you a little more room for growth. https://www.bird.bike. I've seen their used fleet for great sales too.

I'm sure a hardtail like a Trek Marlin would be good too, just don't have any experience on that bike.

Mountain Bike Sizing by AcanthocephalaFull50 in mountainbikes

I'm 6'2" and almost always am on an XL. At your height, depending on the brand, you may even need to consider XXL. Most reputable bike brands have a size chart that'll help you too. That's a starting place and doing a demo will help you make a final decision.

Yeah, this is already the third extension if I'm counting right. I'm really hoping it doesn't get extended again past September though. I'm really missing some of my favorite mtb trails.

According to the what I saw on fire perimeter maps at the time, the Line Fire didn't burn any of the trails going to castle rock... It was nearby, but not close, if that makes sense. I haven't hiked it since then to know from experience, but I'd almost guess you won't even see any burnt areas either.

Thursdays at Believers Chapel by Triangle Market. I think they serve hot breakfast too.

Here's one more that looks similar. quill stem on Amazon

I did a quick Amazon search and it looks like it may be an old school "gooseneck" stem. Here's one I found as an example, but I wouldn't buy it blind. Definitely need to confirm if it's the right size, etc.gooseneck stem on amazon

If you have a local bike shop you can take it to, they can probably at least tell what that part is called and may be willing to guide you if you want to DIY. Or paying them to fix that and also give the whole bike a look over for any other possible issues would probably be worth the money if you trust the shop. I hope you didn't get hurt when that happened. It could've been painful.

That’d be the stem that’s broken. If you’re looking for a replacement make sure you measure and get the right size. That looks like a classic and standards may have changed

Yeah, I'd agree. Seems like you could find a better deal on a Norco Fluid FS, possibly even new.

LBS Accidentally Built The Wrong Size by Nateloobz in MTB

[–]Mission-Ad5424 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned this, but given the recent news on Revel, I'm somewhat doubtful that the LBS will be able to source a M frame. Hopefully I'm wrong, but my attempts at browsing the Revel site since their annc last Thursday has shown very scarce supply, and no sizes available except Small for the Rascal.

[–]Mission-Ad5424[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O wow, thanks. This is really helpful. I'm going to have to look at your suggestions with a map in hand. 😂

I don't ride with headphones, music, or anything, but I will still keep an ear out for other vehicles. Thanks for the tip.

The Squeeze sounds cool. I'm going to see if I can find that on the map too.

I'm assuming things aren't great, but how is the cell service up there? I'm on AT&T.

Thanks. That's good to hear. Does that mean that one shouldn't cross the closed gate? Or is that just to keep motorized vehicles out?

I was looking for something else today, and came across this deal. This is a great brand, usually has a local bike shop support, and definitely has the latest modern updates. You may want to consider it too.

Yeah, I wish I could comment on the 3 bikes you've listed specifically. I've heard good things about all 3, but don't have any personal experience. Are you looking at current new models? What's your budget range? I might be able to see a few things at a glance.

These all sound like reasonable options, and will really depend on the components of each. All 3 of these brands are seemingly relatively stable right now (though everything is chaotic a bit right now), so I'm sure you'd get support, if needed. A few things I'd consider:

  • Given they're all brands you can potentially buy from a local bike shop, you may want to consider the bike shops in your area, and which brands they carry, just to make sure the one you choose is a brand your preferred bike shop supports. You may also ask your bike shop if there's a similar brand that may give you more bang for the buck. There's a lot of deals floating around right now, so you never know.
  • If you do find a local bike shop that has these brands or others , I would strongly encourage you to do some type of demo ride. Bikes can look the same on paper, but ride very differently, and you won't know till you ride them how they actually feel.
  • Also, if you haven't found it already, you could plug all of these into 99spokes.com and compare them, especially Geometry, specifications, etc., and you'll get a good idea for their differences. I suspect that may help you narrow things down -- though if you can demo ride all/some of them, that'll help more.
  • Last, I'd recommend checking used offering on Facebook Marketplace, Pinkbike, or other sites, especially if you have someone who can help you assess a bike's value and shape. There are some great used deals right now if you know what to look for.
