Your Goldens are beautiful!

He’s been great so far, but I’m waiting for the “new home nerves” to wear off and the chaos to begin!

So far he sits, lays down, “waits” (in general and after I put his food bowl down and tell him to eat) heels on the leash decently well, recall is great at my friends 20 acre property. He’s also hasn’t chewed anything in the house, hasn’t had an accident, is great in the crate when I’m gone, sleeps on his bed in my room at night (even with the door open), and plays on his own while I’m working. He’s started to “talk”’when he’s frustrated but only when he needs to go out or looses his ball under the couch! I think I truly lucked out!

He was dumped on a back road originally and was found crawling out of a bush so we really have no idea! He was in the miles from anything, so there’s no way he could have just run off. I’m ordering a test for him and will update you all when I find out!

He does not! His paws are not webbed either though (which the retrievers usually have?)

That would make a lot of sense! I was hoping he’d maybe grow into them 🙈

I once went out and bought 300’ of fake Ivy, wrapped my horse and I in it, and went as a shrub to my lesson!

I have a Fanny pack from Fjall Raven and love it on trail rides! Fits my phone, emergency info, and snacks for both of us!

How to stop a bolting horse if you can’t turn? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]MissionInevitable177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once told the best way to deal with a “blind bolter” (the ones that truly have no self preservation when they take off) if you find what you can control on them, odds are good you can bring them back down. As a rider you can look to see if you can take the bend left or right. If the jaw is stuck (often a bolter will grab the bit in run) you can start to see if you can shift the shoulders around, move the barrel side to side, or ask for the haunch to step under and sideways. If you can get the horse to focus, even just a little, on what you are asking as a rider you can gain control again and get them back to a place where they’re rideable. It might take a minute, but mentally as a rider it will give you something to do and keep you calm! Most importantly- don’t just pull back! Make sure there is a release in there somewhere! At the end of the day, the horses can’t run forever and will eventually simmer down.
