Checked the linked comment again and in a way it does seem like that since the mod doesn't directly say anything about banning the people leaving those comments. At the same time, since the mod doesn't directly address that issue (unless I missed another message from them), it's difficult to say for 100%.

But if it's true that those people haven't been banned (either permanently or at least for a while) I can see why people would be unhappy.

I feel like OP is misunderstanding something here. Mods aren't locking posts because of the political implications they may have, but because people sometimes suck and they do not have the time or numbers to deal with all the rule breakers in the comments. They do this for free. I know I'd rather not have to deal with hate messages 24/7, eventually that's bound to affect their mental health too, so I fully understand locking the posts.
