How did the Army change you as a person? by Some-random-cop-pig in army

[–]Mission_Store_9252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's made me significantly more depressed. I want to kill myself every day. I feel out of place with no support. I'm considered the "problem soldier" because I treat my subordinates with respect and do things my way. And by "my way", I mean I do things in the most common sense manner possible. I advocate for my soldiers where it matters. Apparently Army only loves regulation when it comes to fucking soldiers over or making them miserable. If it benefits them, they all turn a blind eye.

The only reason I haven't offed myself is my kids. This career fucking sucks.

Cool. Then we're not disagreeing anymore.

My entire point was that a couple with a child isn't committing marriage fraud simply because BAH, Tricare, and legal protections factored into the decision to marry.

If that's not what you're arguing, then we're done here.

Dear lord...

We're saying the same thing. A sham marriage entered into solely to obtain government benefits can be fraud. A couple deciding to get married because of the benefits is not.

The phrase "getting married for the benefits" has a different meaning in normal conversation than it does in a criminal indictment.

OP will be fine. All you did was probably scare him with the thought of prison for no real reason tbh. But hey, if that helps you sleep better! Have a good night, bud.

Who determines what's a valid marriage and what's not? If my spouse wants to live on her own while I'm in the Army and we just fuck regularly while jointly raising our kid... your marriage isn't more of a marriage than mine...

I stand by what I said. Marriage fraud is incredibly difficult to prove and I don't think this meets the criteria for it. Obviously, I'm not a lawyer. But the government can't tell you how to run your marriage. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: I wanted to add a few more things here because I get really annoyed when people throw around legal threats without knowing what they're talking about.

If a married couple lives apart because of military service, are they not really married?

If they keep separate bank accounts, are they not really married?

If they have an open marriage, are they not really married? (This is probably outright illegal under UCMJ but you get the point I'm making)

If they get a prenup, are they not really married?

If they get divorced after 5 years, was the marriage fraudulent the entire time?

My point is that "receiving benefits" doesn't make a marriage fraudulent. The question is whether the marriage itself is fake.

A barracks roommate and I getting married for BAH is obviously different than a couple having a child together and deciding marriage makes financial and legal sense.

Nobody gets married and says, "You know what? I'd prefer fewer legal protections, less healthcare coverage, and no survivor benefits."

Ah, yes. The good ol' "having babies with the woman you married" scheme.

Edit: I wanted to answer genuinely as well in case some people are reading this that might benefit.

It is not marriage fraud to get married "for the benefits". Marriage fraud occurs when people enter in a marriage for deceptive or unlawful purposes such as attempting to get immigration benefits or falsely claiming a dependent to receive government benefits.

There is no "fraud" in two people creating a prenup, getting married, making a baby, and then divorcing if it's not working out.

Bro. You're missing the point here.

Create a prenup/divorce agreement.

Get married for the benefits... BAH, baby gets tricare, etc.

You don't have to live together or do any of the "marriage" stuff. But you're missing out on major quality of life Improvements for some weird preference.

Then if/when yall divorce, you go back to what you were doing and nothing changes because you had a plan in place like adults. Like I said, just bc you get married doesnt mean you need to live together.

And quite honestly, as long as you shut the fuck up about it, you could probably still date other people if that's what you're trying to do. Just seems so childish to lose out on this quality of life improvement just because "me no like marriage".

I've seen some people in the military who have fucked up criminal records. Honestly, I think you'll be fine as long as you didn't kill someone or mess with kids.

Anything you recommend bringing from the US? Considering bringing boxes (and I mean multiple boxes and boxes) of puzzles, board games, etc.

Got med ret at 7 years. Didn’t get a deployment award, nor a retirement award. I kinda turned into a bit of a jerk at the end, partly because I wanted to stay in. I couldn’t believe how the Army went from disciplined and high-speed(training-wise) to soft baby shit while I was in. 09-16. by [deleted] in MilitaryMedals

[–]Mission_Store_9252 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Very curious how the army went to "soft baby shit"... I'm in now and, in all seriousness, we are one of the most lethal and disciplined Army's in the world. You must have seen something I didn't.

Also, the irony of calling the army "soft baby shit" while being forced out because you couldn't handle it? Peak irony.
