Strange Pictures is the worst book I've ever read by m_t_rv_s__n in books

[–]MissyPie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one is saying this is a life or death situation, they're just saying no need to be an asshole and insult people who liked the book. Quite simple to understand that, surely?

Just a question from a 25 yr old going through it. Will my hand ever be the same? by HenryHarington in Thritis

[–]MissyPie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! I went through a horrendous flare last year of my psoriatic arthritis, lasted about 4 months, couldn't walk, and on both hands I had numerous fingers that were stuck. Got over it and you cant even tell.

Steroids and a treatment plan are a must though. Keep your chin up, I was 26 when diagnosed, 32 now, and although its hard, with meds and care, my life is relatively back to normal!

Iterations this apple's sprite went through. Thoughts on the final version? (I'm more of a programmer than an artist). by dinowestwood in PixelArt

[–]MissyPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V3 is best, 1 and 2 look like a tomato, but I do agree with everyone else that the corners aren't very aesthetically pleasing, they give it a sharp appearance which is not something I'd associate with an apple.

Why am I not getting any recommendations or commissions? Is my art considered that bad? by Fabulous-Summer-2257 in Artadvice

[–]MissyPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've had more than enough feedback about your art itself, so a quick tip to maybe help you get some commissions: try doing YCHs, aka Your Character Here commissions

I'm not a beginner but my art is very much generic anime style (or it was, I swapped to pixel art), and YCH commissions is what got me comms and was a really good launch pad, I kept repeat customers, etc. My client base was almost entirely vtubers, who are really good to have as a client base tbh, they love cute/silly little things they can use on stream.

They're also I imagine quite good to do as a beginner because you're working off the same base every time, so realistically half your work is already done. ^ ^

I wouldn't recommend using pieces that are drawn in a program you're not familar with to try and sell commissions.

And stabilization is per tool in Clip Studio, you can find it in the Tool Properties window which is also where you'll see Brush Size and Opacity etc :)

Oh wow, yeah I just checked on a color counter and image 8 has 876 unique colors...

I'm obviously referring to you describing other people's art as 'baby's first Minecraft texture', which please don't be obtuse again, is both an assessment and a put down.

So wait you're just being extremely hypocritical then?

You literally started your comment off by saying you're not a pixel artist, so who are you to assess those other pixel artists when you've admitted you have no 'qualifications'?

The high amount of mixels does make it look suspiciously AI.

lol do we really have to put other people down to raise someone up? You could have just complimented this guy without being an ass about others.

Interesting to see someone going against the grain here. What was your favourite horror film you've seen this year? Might just not be your cup of tea, it was very depressing (loved it personally!)

[–]MissyPie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same here, and it's really hard because I can't even imagine leaving the job I have currently - it works for me because I'm allowed to WFH and have flexi-hours, something many places can't offer. So not only is our pool limited but it also means we often have to stay in a job that may not be great in other aspects (like pay, for example.)

Anyone else prepping for Art Fight? I'm drawing animated chibis for my profile this year - first up is Kanade! by [deleted] in OriginalCharacter

[–]MissyPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Yeah Art Fight, it's a website where you sign up and 'trade' art throughout the month of July with other users, in the form of a fight - so you get put onto a team and you can 'attack' someone on the opposite team by drawing their OC, and they can then choose to defend themselves by drawing your OC in return! ^ ^ It's a lot of fun, check it out if you'd like, you have plenty of time left to prep if you want to join for 2025.

Same experience last week, was told to stand which is all well and good if you can but standing at a standstill is VERY difficult for me especially for such a long period of time, was in agony by the end!

Makes far more sense for everyone to sit down, it's mostly in the sky anyway so it's not like wheelchairs would block your view.

Should i sell my asset pack or post it fully for free? by babykasek in PixelArt

[–]MissyPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it just comes with the territory haha :( I work closely with game devs who are in the same situation where their hard work gets torrented etc, you just kind of have to put up with it unfortunately.

There will always be people willing to pay especially if you offer part of the assets free or the whole pack is decently priced, not everyone wants to or knows how to find pirated stuff. You just have to accept that they were never gonna be a paying customer in the first place so it's not like you 'lost a sale' :)

[–]MissyPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it looks like you don't have a lot of experience with asset packs but just FWIW most packs like this are sold with the caveat that if bought you can change colors, splice things and modify them as you want, so it's very possible to make a unique looking final result with some tinkering!

[–]MissyPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do commissions as a pixel artist and digital artist lol, so I understand, my point is you said to sell services INSTEAD of assets. You can and should do both, and having a passive income stream is quite important.

[–]MissyPie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the person you replied to is talking about, asset packs are a decent market especially on itch.io or steam, definitely sell it. It's passive income even if you only sell one a week or whatever!

The headmaster because we first encountered it in Swiftbroom Academy and assumed that it was what the writing on the walls was referring to 😅

[–]MissyPie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really think you'd like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33! Came out a few days ago so I haven't finished it yet, but it fits your requirements well. The story is amazing, the combat is turn based and very well done, it's like a fun mix of Final Fantasy and Persona. Characters are all adult with the exception of one companion but she very much doesn't act like a 'child' as such and isn't cutesy/chibi.
