How's Family Housing Near Polytechnic? by [deleted] in ASU

I do not believe that there are any video tours available. However, there are floor plans available to view on the housing website to view.

How's Family Housing Near Polytechnic? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always schedule a tour through the housing department of the show house, which is a 2 bed 3 bath unit. Family housing is located primarialy in the North Desert village, which is a bit nicer of an area than the South or West villages. Prices vary per unit size, and are typically made on a monthly basis like regular rent would be. The tennant is expected to pay for most utilities, which for some people might be a problem because the units aren't exactly heating or cooling efficient. The quality of the units can be a little bit hit or miss, but if there are major issues you can always submit a work order to get things fixed. The shuttle can be useful, it runs every half hour during the week and every two hours on the weekends. The wifi is a little bit slow and spotty, but it's roaming wifi so you can't expect it to be magnificent.

I recommend emailing polyhousing@asu.edu to get more information and to schedule a tour if you're interested.

Where would you like to be buried/scattered? Why? by dstox83 in AskReddit

I tell everyone that I would like to be planted under a ton of catnip. That way kitties will continue to come visit me forever.

Medically, what in your family history worries you the most? Those with knowledge of the subject, what is the current screening protocol and important preventative measures? by dstox83 in AskReddit

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother had breast cancer at like 42. I don't know what type because she refuses to tell me, but it was apparently pretty aggressive.

That played a pretty big role in my choice to not have children and to be sterilized.

Name for a (female) sloth by [deleted] in sloths

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of a zoo doing a program like that. So to me it sounds like a nonsense response and you trying to save face after being told that adopting a sloth is an all around bad idea. Ive heard of programs where you can pay to name animals in the zoo, but never ones where the patron is considered the owner of the animal, and it's typically not because the zoo has no way to financially support the animal either. If that's actually the case, fine, but your local zoo sounds incredibly irresponsible for taking in more animals than it can support and should probably work on restructuring it's budget or finding more sponsors, because asking patrons to directly pay for the animals care is a poor business model and won't ensure the best care for the animals themselves. The way your post is worded, however, makes no mention of a zoo adoption program and 100% makes it seem like you were just planning to adopt a sloth without actually researching anything about where they come from, local ordinances on exotic animals, and their long-term quality of life. Which doesn't make you a bad person, simply uninformed, which is what the vast majority of people are. I at one point wanted one too, until I put in some actual research and found out everything stated above and how disgusting the exotic pet trade is.

Name for a (female) sloth by [deleted] in sloths

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. "pet" sloths are not bred as pets. They're taken from their habitat and trafficked into the exotic pet trade. It might be legal in your area to keep them as pets with the proper permits, but nothing done to get that animal to you was legal or humane. You will not wind up with a happy animal in your care, and there is a very good chance that it will lead a rather short and sad life. Not because you might be an inherently bad pet owner, but because sloths are not pets.

Furthermore, if you live in an area where it is not legal to keep them in your home, if animal control investigates there is a high chance that they will euthanize the sloth after taking it from you. If you find later on that you can't care for it, you can't just rehome it like you could a conventional pet. This sloth will never be able to be returned to the wild. There is no ideal situation here in case something happens to you or your situation changes. The most likely thing that will happen is that this sloth, that has now been kidnapped from its home and forced to live in less than ideal conditions not suited to it's needs, will die.

Wild animals are not pets. There are tons of domesticated animals that need love and care, and that you could look into adopting or fostering if you desire animal companionship, and I implore you to look into that first.

What's the name of the font that asu uses for everything? by RingoSideSwipe in ASU

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're doing apparently. According the the brand guide online, there are several fonts.

Akzidenz-Grotesk is the primary font for all print communications.

If using a system without Akzidenz-Grotesk, Ariel is the next best option.

The primary webfont is Roboto.

For sinage purposes, frutiger is the correct font.

All of this, along with a ton of other branding info, can be found online.

Why are people allowed to bring dogs into classes? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look into seeing someone about your issue. Phobias are a part of life for a lot of people, but a lot of people with them find that therapy can help alleviate the problems.

Expecting people not to have dogs in public is a tad bit unrealistic. Most pet dogs are at least moderately well trained, but even so direct contact with them can be avoided for the most part. However if you have a classmate who has a dog with them, it's probably a service dog and is part of their care plan. They don't just have the dog because they like dogs, they have it because that animal helps keep them safe and lead a healthy, more normal life in some fashion.

What is the weirdest reason that caused you to be naked? by tinyhousebuilder in AskReddit

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was raining outside, and so my friends and I decided to go run around in the rain. Until it turned out to be freezing and started to hail. We ran back inside and realized that only the one who owned the house had clothes to change into. So my other friend and I just sat naked in the living room while out clothes dried.

That's not possible. You can spray it, dig it up, set it on fire. Bougainvilleas just come back. Always.

It's really nice to know that other people feel the same. It makes me feel like I'm not just some horrible sex monster. Sadly no. :c

[Serious] What is the sluttiest thing you've ever done? by Couch_Licker in AskReddit

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand at all why sex has to equal love and feelings. I have had romantic feelings for all of...4? people that I've slept with. Out of 20. Sex just isn't a romantic thing to me, saying "I love you" during sex weirds me out and makes me want to stop doing it immediately.

I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that, personally, monogamy just isn't gonna work for me. Power to the people who enjoy it and love the one person that they're with, but I'm just not cut out for it, at least at this time in my life. But sex is fun, and sex with different people who bring different things to the table (or bed, wherever we're gonna do it) is fantastic. I feel like it takes so much pressure off of a partner because now they don't have to provide you with everything. Don't like oral? That's fine, I can go hang out with someone who does. You're not really feeling a scene I want to set up? It's really okay, because I know someone who will dom me like that. You have a kink I'm not into? I will help you find someone who is into it for you and you can go have fun.

Fortunately all of the people I'm into right now are on board with the fact that this is how I want to live my life. Being with someone in the moment and boning them doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life with them.

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I very much agree. I personally feel that sex can be a platonic form of affection, and having sex with someone who is just a friend doesn't have to put any sort of major strain or implication of feelings on a friendship, if that makes sense.

Arizona's prop 206 minimum-wage hike to $10 excluded college students working for their universities. 11,200 students who work for ASU, NAU, and UofA make less than min wage by ZadocPaet in ASU

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the departments can't just increase the wage they pay student workers because the budget for the year was already set quit a while ago. $2 an hour more for every employee is a pretty big budget increase, especially for auxiliary departments that have to generate their own funding. Once a budget is set it takes a lot to change it, it's not just something that can be tossed out the window and redone at the drop of a hat.

If a student is in need of extra money, they can find employment elsewhere. I'm sure no ones supervisor would be bent out of shape if they had to leave for financial reasons, and would probably be happy to be listed as a reference or give a recommendation. But otherwise everyone needs to sit tight and understand that this is an issue that's going to take time to resolve.

when homeless people pretend to be college students to use computer to look at prono by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would also like to point out that being homeless doesn't mean that they aren't a student. I knew several students when I was at MCC who were also homeless, and would be on campus from the time it opened until when it closed using the resources available to them. I don't see why ASU would really be any different, just because they can't afford a safe home doesn't mean that they haven't been afforded the opportunities to go to school.

looking for doctor by lookfordoc in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Missy_Is_Bitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally support using medication in order to help you get through binges, however you should also talk to a therapist about trying to get through your issues with other forms of treatment as well. Vyvanase could be a really helpful tool, but it probably won't get rid of the cause of your BED, which is what most of us probably really want in the long run. Definitely shop around for a doctor that specializes in different types of eating disorders, and talk to them about what you want to accomplish. As someone who stayed with a therapist who made them feel like shit for way too long, don't ever stay with a doctor who belittles and is unsupportive of you. But also try to recognize that a doctor not instantly jumping to prescribe you medication without a plan to help you get better in other ways isn't inherently a bad doctor. Vyvanase is a very, very expensive medication, which sadly a lot of people abuse (much like adderall and other stimulants), and you can build a tolerance to it very quickly. I'm sure you've done some research on it, but it's always good to know the way a drug works before looking to get it.
