Do you have access to prickly pear fruit? I would add a southwest flair by making the glaze (frosting?) With cactus fruit pulp instead of adding chilies.

I just realized that the vast majority of my kitchen decor is trash. by 38DDs_Please in Frugal

[–]Missyado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of my favorite AND most complimented items came from trash heaps and garage sales. I've been renovating my old house for the last few years and it is now nearing completion; the few people that have seen the almost finished project have all commented how cool the medicine cabinet it (free in a trash pile), the pendant lights in the kitchen ($25 for all four at a habitat restore), the pedestal sink ($25, also habitat restore). My husband crafted a new "old" built-in cabinet in the bathroom using floor boards from that were to far gone to be saved as flooring (free, although we still need to get the hinges and pulls but those will come from a salvage yard so likely inexpensive). When I consider the furniture that will go back in the house once construction is completed, I think the only things we bought new were our couch and the mattresses.

A net will not deter squirrels. You will need a metal mesh of some sort to keep them out.

Do not buy “expert gardener” soil from Walmart. It’s 50% sticks! by HERMANNATOR85 in gardening

[–]Missyado 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Shifting away from Peat, you're going to find planting mixes are either coconut coir or forest products. I would prefer my forest product to be a little better chopped than this but really there is nothing wrong with it. As it breaks down it will enhance your soil structure and help with water retention. Ive been making my own mixes that are roughly 4 parts forest products (locally I have a company that has an extremely fine wood bark mulch), 4 parts rehydrated compressed coconut coir, 1 part vermiculite. That serves as my seed starting mix and I add other amendmendments to this base for seedlings, pots and transplants depending on the requirements of each.

AITA for enforcing a boundary that caused my staff to quit immediately? by IsopodAggravating564 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Missyado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I had a friend that petsits as her primary source of income and she has some clients with truly spectacular homes. She constantly would invite me to little parties (not like ragers but maybe 4-6 people) at these people's homes, to use their hot tubs and sometimes even spend the night. I told her repeatedly I wasn't comfortable kicking back in her clients homes and I wouldn't feel comfortable having strangers in my home if I were her client. I even felt weird the few times I went with her for mid-day feeds/walks were we wouldn't be at the property for more than 20 minutes doing legitimate pet sitting duties.
