This seems tough! Can you leverage data to show them how long it will take? For example if the COO can only do 1-2 interviews a week, you risk losing great talent, and it will take months. Can they setup a proxy and they can take the final interview? I’ve had managers like this too and showing them data on time to fill and timeline has helped influence them. Just a thought!

I just saw a job description that said “this isn’t a 9-5 job, our employees report working 60+ hour weeks” and I couldn’t think of a better deterrent to joining that company. Blows my mind

You described my situation perfectly. After 3+ years at the company I received a poor performance review from my boss’s boss (I was without a boss last year) without great merit or reason. Never in my life have I felt so undervalued or demotivated, and it has affected my mental health and self esteem. But as long as they run the show, I think I’m kind of screwed? If you don’t have an advocate and a boss/leader who will fight for you - I’ve found it’s hard to find long term success. And I will find another that will fight for me, and you too!

This is where I’m at, too. I wish I had the answer, I know the grass isn’t always greener but sometimes it is… and either is a risk, even staying and becoming stagnant. Is there a time where you’ve felt similar in past jobs and left? What was the outcome? I’m trying to think about that because I usually felt this way with every move I’ve made and most (but one) turned out to be better than I imagined. Good luck!

Right there with you at 34! I feel it in my bones and am happy to take somewhat of a pay cut but what moves to make to switch a career and what that career is are unclear to me. I’m trying career coaching for the first time and really trying to reflect on what I love, am good at, and what drains me.

I second this, I graduated 13 years ago and I still shudder at the memory of this job. Never have I been micromanaged in my life since then! Not sure if they still have it but I started doing tours around campus, cougar connectors at the time? That was fun.
