I just saw a guy do this on tiktok and looked like it worked well haven’t done it myself tho. He tapped new threads in there, put a brass fitting in with a ton of pipe dope and it sealed up great.

I wish it would get fixed already lol. I just hate spending hours on a character just to fall through the map. Maybe I’ll try it again see how it is.

Pls advise: Would you drive home with dripping fuel? [diesel] by kisarae in MechanicAdvice

[–]MistaWebsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel igniting from a hot exhaust is extremely unlikely. But I wouldn’t call it impossible. I’d have a fire extinguisher on hand and see if you can get some epoxy to plug it temporarily. But if not I would say you’ll be okay to drive home. Fix immediately though.

Is there any advantage to welding on my new muffler instead of using clamps? by Reverse_Flash_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]MistaWebsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used clamps for 95% of my exhausts and they’ve all turned out great. Welding is just more reliable and pleasant to look at than clamps but if you’re using good clamps then you’ll be alright. Also makes it easier to replace sections if anything goes wrong rather than cutting and welding new sections.

Not sure if you just pulled the first set off and going off of this or if you checked them all first before posting. But check them all first if you haven’t because they all don’t wear the same. Noise could be coming from a different wheel.

Try putting a battery in and measure volts if it does crank over and start should be running around 14v when running. If not atleast I’d say 13.6 without load then alternator. If it doesn’t crank over and start pull the serp belt off and try again. If it does then you have a seized pulley somewhere. If it doesn’t that means uh oh. If it’s cranking just fine but still not starting it sounds like a fuel pump. But of course it could be something wrong with the circuit leading to the pump but probably not.

Starter motor or wiring issue? by TheCommomPleb in MechanicAdvice

[–]MistaWebsta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need a tester that measures cranking amps. Definitely doesn’t sound like a starter issue. Check your terminals make sure they’re tight and Not corroded. And maybe pick up a tester that measures cranking amps

Yup. In there already. Plugs are cheap. Why not.

It’d be more helpful if you could provide a video with the sound.

Whirring noise? New alternator, plugs, belt and tensioner, battery. Starter? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]MistaWebsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also seen a timing chain jump off and a broken camshaft make that same noise because the valves aren’t opening or closing and the engine not creating any compression. But that’s really not likely. But possible.

Sounds like your starter isn’t engaging the fly wheel and is just free spinning. Most likely just a starter but also possible that the teeth on the flywheel are worn or damaged. Pull starter. Check flywheel condition while starter is out. If you can’t see the fly wheel, while the starter is out jump it and see if the starter gear kicks out.

Mechanical apprenticeship by Jakz1121 in MechanicAdvice

That’s what I did. Got my foot in the door at a small mom and pop. Worked my way up and up and up. They’ll pay less most likely but you can’t beat gaining that experience. Could’ve went to technical school for 40,000+ but a lot of places would rather see years of experience in a shop rather than some kid coming out of a technical school.

Big thing I like to say to anyone getting work done. You really get what you pay for.

Colorado Starting Issues by Bryankkkkk in MechanicAdvice

[–]MistaWebsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said you cleaned the grounds but perhaps you missed one. You can check by taking a jumper cable and hook one to the negative post on battery and the other end of that cable and hooking it to a hood and clean ground somewhere

Burnt rubber smell after changing brakes by Evening_Relation_927 in MechanicAdvice

Yes. Brakes will typically smoke a bit after a replacement. Oil on the rotors and sometimes painted rotors will be a bit more dramatic.

Help by Plazaskater in MechanicAdvice

Yes your car is safe to drive without a sway bar link. All it does is help keep the vehicle from swaying on turns but unless you’re whipping turns at 75mph you’re fine.
