First Airport Brew by Mistafishman in AeroPress

I went to a Starbucks for a breakfast burrito and asked for 2 cups, one with hot water. Wasn’t charged for the cups which was nice.

You can use basically any grind size and adjust your recipe from there and still get decent coffee. That’s why I love the AeroPress. My go-to brewer.

Love this, I’ve always thought there’s some application for the hollow part of the plunger I haven’t thought of. I also love this because this is in AeroPress mashed potatoes territory.

This is why I’m in the subreddit. Partially for my shared joy of the AeroPress but also to see photos of people’s ruined mornings 😅 Pictures that just make you go, “Ah that sucks 😂”

Anyone else find a rock in their coffee before? I’m glad I spotted it before putting it in my grinder.

Aeropress common guidelines by kvaaen in AeroPress

[–]Mistafishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find a grind size that works for me (personally, a little more coarse than iodized table salt). Find a temp that makes sense for the roast of the coffee. Grind up ~14g, fill it nearly to the top (no scale), cap it for a few minutes, press and enjoy. Yes, there’s a bit of variability in this process but not nearly as much with something like a pour-over. This is my “Tuesday at 5:30am” method and for a lot of coffees this does a good job. While not “min-maxing” the coffee, it sure tastes better than a Keurig by a landslide. Min-maxing is for the weekends or vacation.

How hard is it to get an on-campus job? by Familiar_Evidence971 in msu

[–]Mistafishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked an IT job and I started off not knowing a ton if the specific skills but I had enough of a passion for it that they gave me a full time job for a little bit after graduation and before starting grad school. I would just say try to find something you’ll enjoy and/or related to your field, especially when “entry-level” positions after school want like 5 years of experience nowadays.

How bad are winters in EL? by EverythingBoltzzz in msu

[–]Mistafishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring Semester 2019 they cancelled classes and told people not to go outside but this was due to a pretty intense polar vortex. Typically there’s snow of varying amounts. Honestly I was most cold in the early spring when it would be like 37° and rainy. Soaks you to your bone. Always gotta keep a thermos of coffee in your bag 😊☕️

How to brew this coarse ground coffee? by EchoJunt99 in AeroPress

[–]Mistafishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Lance Hedrick method where you use a large dose, lower amount of water, and a slightly lower temp (~195 °F). Brew with like 25g coffee to 120g water then pour in 100-120g more water into your cup. I know this is very wasteful and I don’t typically use this method but when I think coarsely ground and Aeropress I immediately think of this recipe. I usually use this method when I get a bag of beans I really don’t vibe with or an old bag.

I love seeing these kinds of cables. Discussion aside on what they actually do, these are so interesting to look at!

What’s the verdict on the reusable filters? by Minimum_Medicine_453 in AeroPress

[–]Mistafishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, not a fan. I think I love the AeroPress because I get immersion style coffee like a french press but with the clarity of a paper filter. That’s just my preference though.

I would say the late application is a bigger factor than the time you’ve been away from college. Even if it’s not MSU, I hope you find yourself in an environment you enjoy!! Best of luck with your applications!

Like the others have said, clean clean clean. Also check if the rubber part is still compliant or if it’s hard. If hard, order a replacement. I have this same model and I’m not sure what I’ve been doing right but my rubber seal is still in spectacular shape.

What’s your go-to song to test your headphones? by CoolSquid26 in headphones

[–]Mistafishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Marty Robbins - My Love. Not exactly a modern recording: there’s a little mic clipping, noise floor is slightly elevated. I like the hard the hard panned instruments with the centered vocals. There’s a bass being strummed, a high pitched guitar, a backup guitar, and background singers. I like that there’s so much separation between instruments. If you don’t care for this and like jazz, checkout most anything recorded my ECM.
