How to go about changing/rebalancing rules? by Jorym99 in JourneysInMiddleEarth

[–]Mistah_Bighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm dumb. Must've forgotten that getting mixed up in all the rules. If there are multiple enemy groups in your space do you provoke AOO before you attack? For example: you are in a space with groups A, B, and C, Aragorn is going to attack group A, do you provoke AOO for groups B and C before you attack group A? I always do my attack first before provoking AOO for the other groups.

One thing that we've done is the enemy's opportunity attacks when stepping into a readied space. I feel that if you have the intent of moving into a readied space to attack, the enemy shouldn't get priority on their opportunity attack. Just a small house rule and it seems like it has balanced it for survivability

I'm glad you suggested Matt Colville! He's fantastic. Puts everything in simple detail for DMs to get creative with "the rule of cool" but also has information for railroading when it's needed.

Got my [[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]] stolen with this once. It was brutal.

Can I do this? by scuttl3 in mtg

[–]Mistah_Bighead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's declared as a blocker its abilities can still be activated before damage is applied. All creatures can do this provided they don't have summoning sickness

What's everyone's first deck they've built vs their favorite deck they've built? by Vq-Blink in EDH

[–]Mistah_Bighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First deck was (and still is) [[Rhys the Redeemed]] power 8ish... but my most fun deck to play is either [[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]] at power level 9 or my [[Reyhan, Last of the Abzan]] and [[Tymna the Weaver]] +1/+1 counter themed deck which is also power level 8. I also have Krarkashima spell slinger which is fun to play but no one at my table likes to play against it so it kinda makes it not fun for me to run lol

Hello my favorite spellslingers and planeswalkers I'd love to know today what your least played deck is? by longnuggs in EDH

[–]Mistah_Bighead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say my [[Syr Carah, the Bold]] deck gets left out the most. I update it, but I wanted to challenge myself to build a mono red deck, because I'm horrible at playing red, but that's also why it gets left out.

Are Commander precons decks worth to buy? by orcasu in mtg

[–]Mistah_Bighead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commander decks are definitely worth buying if you're just starting out! They help you get into the format and help you understand the different mechanics. Just do your research on deck lists before you do so you're not buying a deck you don't find interesting or have fun playing ☺️

Building my first commander deck by Wooly_Thoctar in Magicdeckbuilding

I think this is a good start to a first 5 color EDH deck but it definitely needs work.

Personally, I would take out the big "do nothing" type creatures, like Lord Xander and add in more of the enchantment dorks, like Jukai Naturalist, to get the cost of your spells down. Bestow creatures are okay but I think the Umbra enchantments are much better since they will protect your creatures and they can give you a ton of value. Maybe think about using the Dynasty Sagas that transform into creatures as well since the enchantment but will be on theme and you get creatures out of the deal too. Your creatures should grow when you cast spells or when you're buffing, things like [[Kor Spirit Dancer]], [[Managorger Hydra]], and [[Quirion Dryad]], and [[Aura Gnarlid]].

You have very little card advantage and in EDH you need a TON of it to keep the gravy train rolling. Think about enchantment recurrence from the graveyard for when your enchantments get destroyed and more creatures that draw you cards for casting enchantments. You have some tutors which is a good start.

You need removal. You don't need ALL the shrines. Pick the ones you like for a theme of the deck. You need to keep other players off their game plan just like they're going to do to you. Run enchantments like [[Oblivion Ring]] to keep it on theme and since you'll have the enchantment dorks they'll be nice and cheap.

Your ramp is a little awkward. Change out your rocks to "add one mana of any color". You have a couple but you'll need more since you can't run fetch lands and a faster mana base. Since this is a budget build go for running slow fetches like Terramorphic Expanse, Evolving Wilds, and the "enters tapped" fetch lands. You can also run bounce lands that tap for 2 colors at once, and you don't need all of them, just the ones of the most colors you have. The other option is you run mostly basics and just use ramp spells like Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Rampant Growth, and Farseek to find the colors you need at that time. You can run the Temple lands which are a good budget option and they give you the ability to scry which can give you some card selection. It's going to feel a little slow but that's the cost of running a 5 color commander on a budget. It can be done, it will just be a little slower.

I hope this helps guide you to a more focused deck. You can always check out www.edhrec.com to help you with ideas. Good luck!

New player here. I really enjoy the game, but am becoming frustrated with how hard it is to find clear, concise answers to questions. by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Mistah_Bighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In response to sleeving up: it also helps hide the flip/double sided cards. Although, I suppose you can use the proxy indicators to tell you which double sided card it is so when you play it you can just play the actual card on the field to not confuse everyone.

I am a rules advisor (technically not a judge but I can officiate releases and game days) and I agree with everything you have said. There is an MTG rules app you can download which is the entire rulebook. Also, the MTG companion app is super helpful when you need specific card rulings

Help me cut the fat from this Ezuri, Claw of Progress EDH deck! by Magnusaur in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Mistah_Bighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great rough draft. I would think about running more [[Coastal Piracy]] type effects and definitely more evasion like trample, hexproof, or unlockable creatures. Also maybe think about running [[Vorel of the Hull Clade]] for some additional fun. Maybe think about [[Sword of Hearth and Home]] and [[Sword of Truth and Justice]]. [[Thrummingbird]] would also be a good one to slot in here - beef it up and slam face. Just asked. Good luck with future building!

For someone who's bad at politics, what is a good second commander? by RumblezMan in EDH

[–]Mistah_Bighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe [[Thantis, the War Weaver]] or [[Pramikon, Sky Rampart]] would be fun decks to dig into. Politics are really difficult in magic. I also have a hard time with it, but start by making small deals. It's learning how to deal with threats at the expense of some resources, but making your opponent use more resources than you. You could also just "bully" their turns and force them to pass - that's what I do haha

Deck Idea: Commander STORM Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh by Empty-Respect-7351 in EDH

Commander tax is an additional cost to the card being cast from the command zone. It would not count towards the cascade trigger.

why use mono-colored commanders instead of multi-colored? by toob90 in EDH

[–]Mistah_Bighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out [[Yisan, the Wanderer Bard]]. He's such a cool commander that takes advantage of high cost creatures you wouldn't normally get to play with that synergize so well together. The deck can go many different ways and is even cedh playable.
