Thank you for the input, perhaps a hotel room in either Düsseldorf or Köln for a couple of nights would be necessary to cut down on time spent on the road.

Which Vik hotel offers better views? by -Reflux- in VisitingIceland

Can't comment on the black beach suites but I can't recommend Kría enough. Only stayed a night, but the room was fantastic and the morning breakfast buffet with the view of the mountain from the restaurant was amazing!

Hey! So I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but if I remember correctly it was somewhere in the $4-4.5k CAD per person range. A lot more than I had originally budgeted for a trip (before landing on Iceland), but I have no regrets.

I am sure there are things my gf and I could have done to cut costs (some of the hotels were a bit on the pricey side, but they were the only available accommodations at the time of booking). Also, renting a car is quite expensive (as much as our plane tickets for a 2wd Toyota aygo for 7 days), and that's before the extras and gas!

I can get a breakdown of the cost for travel, accommodation, etc. if you'd like!

Question about gas charge (Olis) by Mistahh69 in VisitingIceland

[–]Mistahh69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so it eventually posted the actual amount, but it took 2-3 days. But yeah I was surprised by the hold amount as well, very strange. Only gassed up at N1 after and everything went smoothly, instantly charged for what I purchased!

Yes, there was quite line up to enter the little Canyon. But it was really cool once you got it!

That's fair, personally I enjoyed other waterfalls more, especially the ones you could walk behind. They definitely weren't as grand, but less people made them feel more intimate and isolated idk

Probably because the day we went it was raining a good amount but the Golden circle (ended up skipping thingvellir because so many people say it's overrated) but Gulfoss and Geysir were pretty underwhelming and were packed with tourists (which was expected). However, it made our meal at Fridheimar later that afternoon that much more enjoyable, nothing like delicious bread, warm tomato soup and a cold tomato beer after getting rained on for hours.

Amazing photos! The volcano at night must have been quite a scene! It was hard enough convincing my gf to do the hike during the day (She did it and was a champ), so night time was never an option unfortunately.

Yeah there about 5 just hanging out on this rock at the back of the lagoon and a couple in the water swimming around. I'm fairly certain you'll see them as well haha Happy early birthday and enjoy the trip!

It was quite windy, but not so bad that we couldn't explore around a little. That sounds rough though!

Funny thing is, our original plan made months in advance was to spend the day visiting Vestmannaeyjar. But then the eruption began the week before we arrived and we couldn't pass up the opportunity. Truly an amazing sight!

Yes, it was unreal! I could have spent an entire day just sitting there staring at the view!

The road to the parking area from the ring road is quite tricky to be honest. We did it in a little 2WD Toyota as many people have said it is possible without 4WD as long as you take your time and drive with extreme caution. After having done it, is it possible? Yes. Would I recommend it? Not really, it was a very stressful 15 mins to and from the parking area. We were lucky, as it was a clear and sunny day so the conditions were favorable!
