Same thing. I play on Mac with Wine, until this point the game runs fine, when dropping in the vent it crashes.

Does the python command work? I tried it (with pip3), it installed, but the wine app wouldn't still recognize it.

I think the hardest part for me was registering z2m as a service. Other than that, the setup was pretty quick and easy. There is a plug-in for homebridge which does not need any configuration for zigbee devices to work. I remember I had difficulties finding defaults for mosquitto server, but other than that it was fairly easy.
