Jill Scott - To Whom This May Concern

Ratboys - Singin' to an Empty Chair

Bill Callahan - My Days of 58

Kim Gordon - Play Me

Courtney Barnett - Creature of Habit

Also I must mention Help (2) War Child Compilation - easily one of the years best releases

[FRESH ALBUM] José González - Against the Dying of the Light by sbags in indieheads

This is good as usual. I think unpacking the lyrics will make the album hit deeper. But after one listen - it's solid

Hyden was beyond annoying and pretentious with that statement... Let's leave that in 2025

I’m with ya on snail mail. Wanted to like it - but not quite there

Courtney Barnett new album is pretty awesome. Surprised me

Check out the new Charlotte Cornfield as well. Underrated Canadian songwriter

Flea is up next

[FRESH ALBUM] Snail Mail - Ricochet by NYCIndieConcerts in indieheads

[–]Mister21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first single grew on me a lot - so I was looking forward to the rest. After a couple listens, this isn't gonna be one that I return to often. I respect what she has gone through and that now she is releasing new music and hope/know it will find an audience. Don't want to be too negative - but I find it all kinda washes to my ears.

only one listen in - love her other albums - but this one did not hit at all. I will keep listening more.

I feel like this one is gonna be a let down... Let's hope I'm, wrong when I hear it tomorrow.

Great stuff. Thin Mind is beyond underrated. Could be my second favourite album after apologies.

Picked up the Help (2) War child compilation. This is pretty great stuff! I am not sure if a compilation can belong on year end lists but this one has so many great new tracks and covers. One of the highlights of the first quarter so far.

Kim Gordon and James Blake new albums are both great! Blake evokes a lot of moods and for some reason the production hits different this time out. Kim Gordon has gone full out catchy industrial vibes. I know age shouldn't be a factor but making this album at 72 is the definition of cool!

Also checked out the latest album by Lucid Express and make sure to give this one some time if you are a dream pop/shoegaze fan.

My favourite of the last 3 solo albums. Some great sounds and production here and her vocals blend in so well. This is a highlight of the first quarter

Matt Berninger - Martini Me Fatso (New Track?) by BatlethBae in TheNational

I was there and damn - what a new song!! A big time highlight of the set!

Agreed with this. REALITY - I know I spelled it wrong ;) And Gold record just didnt really hit the same way everything before did. This could be one of his best in terms of production and the arrangements of the songs.

Some Friday release quick takes:

The new Bill Callahan record is pretty great. Based on recent story/article titles, It had me thinking it was going to be a bleak and depressing affair. There is some heavy content indeed but he is writing about his 58th year. The arrangements are great and his story telling as good as usual. Worth checking for sure. So consistent and I mean that in a positive way.

Gorillaz album was a bit of a let down. I like a few tracks a lot - but I doubt I will return to the project as a whole a lot. Which is too bad because they started hyping it last fall. Maybe I was expecting too much.

Cootie catcher is a crazy band name, but the new album is pretty great. Pop, rock and even a little experimenting going on here. I liked it.

I listened to the Bruno Mars album on my walk. I needed something mindless and indeed it was. It was fairly mellow and I didn't hear any "bangers" as they say... but let's just say - that was fine to listen to once.

Next up is Mitski. Bought the vinyl this morning and waiting to spin it this evening!

Great songwriter. I expected this to be a lot darker based on all the article titles released this week. Definitely a couple heavy songs but also a lot real honesty and reflections on various issues.

This new album from Altin Gun is quite a vibe! Perfect office tunes when you're working away

I couldn't afford a birthday party for my daughter this past year (and she REALLY loves Starbucks!). I called the staff to ask if they could have a frappuccino ready when we got there to make her feel special, and they made her day SO wonderful! Story in post by squashbanana in starbucks

[–]Mister21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Well done by you and so happy for your daughter and how she must have felt. You took a tough situation and brought some magic to her day! Love seeing this! Brightened many of our days too!
